In Elden Ring Armor is one of the types of equipment that has a significant impact on the character. Armor not only allows you to absorb more damage, but also increases resistance to various negative statuses, such as poison and bleeding, and can increase some of the hero's characteristics.
In this guide, we will tell you about the best armor sets for mages, agile assassins, warriors, tanks and other "classes". You will learn about their features, bonuses and characteristics. We will show you what they look like and where exactly you can find them.
How to Choose the Best Armor in Elden Ring
As you probably already understood, in this action RPG there is no best universal armor that suits any style of play - there are many good sets with their own advantages and disadvantages that fit perfectly into one or another gameplay. Therefore, you should first decide who exactly you plan to play (mage, tank, damager, etc.), and only then select armor for him.
Of course, you need to pay attention to the characteristics of the armor: some protect better from physical damage, while others - from magic, fire, lightning and holy damage. For example, for a fight with some opponents, fairly average armor with increased protection from a certain type of damage may be suitable.
Note: You can't upgrade your armor in the game, so to increase your character's defense you'll have to search for better sets of equipment. However, you can change some sets (for example, remove the cloak) using tailor Bock.
Armor resistance is worth mentioning separately:
- Immunity – determines the hero’s resistance to decay and poison (the higher, the better).
- Vitality – determines the hero’s resistance to frostbite and bleeding (the higher, the better).
- Concentration – determines the hero’s resistance to madness and sleep (the higher, the better).
- Physical strength – determines the hero’s resistance to instant death (the higher, the better).
- Balance – Determines the number of hits the hero can take before he is stunned (loses balance).
Another important parameter of armor is weight. The heavier the armor, the slower your character will move and dodge. At the same time, heavy armor, as a rule, provides higher protection and balance, and light armor allows you to roll faster, which is extremely important when fighting many bosses and other players. However, you can try to maintain balance by using medium armor, or simply increasing Durability (affects the permissible weight of equipment).
In the guide, we will separately indicate light and heavy armor sets, so that it will be easier for you to navigate the list. You should also understand that you will not be able to get the most powerful armor at the beginning of the game, so we will first tell you about the optimal sets of equipment for the early stage.

Best Armor for Early Game
These include sets that have good defensive parameters and bonuses, and they can be obtained in the first half of the game. In theory, you can play with them until the endgame, but we still recommend changing them for more interesting options later.
Gemini Armor Set
The Gemini Set, worn by the character Dee, Hunter of the Dead, is one of the most powerful and yet easiest to obtain early armor sets in Elden Ring.
This set offers good protection against both physical and magical damage, and also provides the character with good balance and survivability, allowing him to withstand hits that cause bleeding or frostbite. At the time of receipt, you will hardly be able to find anything better.
How to get the Gemini set
To get this set you need to either kill Di, when you first meet him in the Tomb (the screenshots below show his location), or start playing through Fia's questline until you receive the dagger from her. Give the weapon to the Dead Hunter in the Round Table Fortress, then reload the area and go past the blacksmith to reach a newly opened room where you'll find Dee's body, from which you can loot his full set of armor.
Later you can give the set to Brother Dee. To return the equipment, you need to complete Fia's quest chain to the very end. We talked about it in detail in in a separate manual.
Carian Knight Armor Set
The Carian Knight set is another strong early game armor set that provides slightly less physical protection than the previous set, but has better magic protection and is lighter in weight.
Carian Knights are enchanted warriors who have sworn allegiance to the Carian royals in Liurnia. As such, their armor provides a greater balance between physical and magical defense than most other knight armor you can find at this stage of the game. It's a great set for almost any early build.
How to get the Carian Knight set
You can find it in Raya Lucaria Academy, located in the center of Lake Liurnia. Get to the place of grace "Cuckoo Temple", and then go through the cemetery until you reach a large gate. Move along its edge and jump down to the platform a little lower.
Walk through this area and you will soon see a group of rotting corpses worshiping a huge tombstone. This armor set can be found near this object. The screenshots above show its exact location.
Pure Rot Knight Armor Set
Armor worn by the Pure Rot Knights in the Starry Wastes. It's harder to obtain than the previous sets, but if you do, it's one of the best early armor sets in the game.
This set is superior to the Gemini set in all stats except Vitality. It does weigh considerably more, though. However, by the time you get to this region, you'll likely have a good amount of Vitality, allowing you to carry this set without any problems.
How to get the Pure Rot set
Unlike the other sets mentioned earlier, this set is a random drop from the Pure Rot Knights found in the Starry Wastes. The two best places to farm these enemies are Aeonia Swamp, located in the center of the region, and the Catacombs of Dead Warriors, a dungeon that can only be accessed from the battleground where Radan is fought.
If you don't want to go to the Starry Wastes yet, we recommend getting to the Shadow Castle, located on the Altus Plateau. Here you can also encounter the Knights of the Pure Rot. However, they appear here much less often, so farming them will take much longer.
Best Heavy Armor
This category includes sets that are heavy, but provide the character with high protection and balance. Unfortunately, even with high Toughness, you will hardly be able to perform fast somersaults while wearing this armor.
Muskox Armor Set
The Muskox set offers the best defense and the highest balance of all sets in the game. However, it is also the heaviest of them all, so you will need a huge amount of Fortitude to avoid penalties when wearing it.
This set focuses on physical damage protection, making it ideal for fighting enemies that deal that type of damage. It also provides an incredible buff to Balance (+100), allowing you to simply ignore many enemy hits that would otherwise interrupt your attacks. You can further increase your balance by equipping a hero with Musk Ox Mascot.
How to get the Muskox set
To do this, you will have to deal with the great Tragot the Horned, who is one of the additional bosses you can face during the Patchwork quest chain. You will need to spare his life, and then take on his contract at Vulcan Manor. We covered this in detail in in a separate guide.
Lionel armor set
This is one of the heaviest and most durable armor sets in the game, and a great choice for any melee character.
While this set isn't as strong in terms of physical defense as the Musk Ox set, it weighs significantly less (though still requires a good amount of Toughness) and gives the player a surprising amount of Vitality. Plus, it's pretty good at protecting against magical and elemental attacks.
How to get the Lionel set
It can be found on a bed near the Lower Temple of the Capital Grace Place located in Leindell. To get there, first go to the main street of the city, and then go northeast. First turn left, then turn left again and go down the elevator.
Once you're down, run even lower, past the zombie graveyard, and then turn right. On the bridge, jump into the sewers and head southwest. Climb the stairs to your left, then use the stairs next to you to get out of the sewers. There's a building right in front of you with a "bonfire" and the bed inside. Exiled Knight Armor Set
While this set is not as heavy and provides less protection than the previous two sets, it is still a very powerful set of heavy armor for those who do not have a lot of Toughness.
This armor weighs much less than Lionel's set, so it's easier to avoid the penalties imposed by overload. And despite its relative lightness, it actually provides even more protection from physical damage than the previous set. Plus, it looks more presentable.
How to get the Exiled Knight set
Unfortunately, getting the full set is not that easy, as it only drops in parts when killing Exiled Knights, who are quite formidable opponents. You will first be able to meet this enemy near the place of grace "Bastion Tower" in Stormveil Castle (Burial).
However, we advise you to farm them in the Cathedral of the Dragon Communion located in the Starry Wastes, as there is a "bonfire" right next to this enemy. After killing the knight, return to the place of grace and refresh the location to attack the warrior again.
Veteran armor set
This is probably the best set for melee builds. It gives a huge balance and provides excellent protection from physical damage and fire. At the same time, it weighs significantly less than the first two sets, which are mostly intended for tanks, so with high Toughness, the hero will still be able to perform relatively fast somersaults.
How to get the Veteran set
To do this, you will first need to deal with a boss named Commander Niall, who can be found on the roof of Sol Castle, located in the Giant's Peak region. Once you have dealt with him, go to Enya, the Reader of the Fingers in the Round Table Fortress, and buy the appropriate set from her.
Crucible Axe Armor Set
It provides less protection and balance than the previous set, but is not as heavy, so it requires less Toughness. With it, you can maintain more mobility, so it can be a good solution for melee warriors.
In addition, each piece of this armor increases the damage of prayers of the category "Knight of the Crucible Attribute" by 3.5%. If you put on a full set, the damage will increase by 15%. Therefore, if you often use these spells, then be sure to put on this set.
How to get the Crucible Axe set
It drops from a boss named Crucible Knight Ordovis, who can be found in the dungeon "Tomb of the Hero Auritsa", located in the Outskirts of the Capital. in a separate manual We told you how to clear this dungeon.
Best Light Armor
This group includes relatively light armor sets that will allow you to move quickly around the battlefield and perform almost instant somersaults. However, they also provide less protection and balance, so it is better not to get hit by enemies in these sets.
Malenia armor set
A very lightweight, but surprisingly durable and beautiful set of armor that will suit almost any character in the late game. It provides good Immunity and Vitality, as well as protection from physical and magical damage, so you won't die if you accidentally take a few hits from enemies.
At the same time, the light weight of the set will allow you to perform quick somersaults without any problems. This set is ideal for builds that involve wearing two katanas that cause bleeding, as it allows you to quickly close the distance to the enemy.
How to get Malenia set
To do this, you will need to deal with Malenia, the Blade of Michelle, who is considered one of the most difficult bosses in the game. You can find her in the secret location of the Holy Tree of Michelle. in a separate manual We told you how to get there.
Once you've dealt with her, head to the Round Table Fortress and buy the set from Finger Reader Enya. The total cost of the set will be 56,000 runes.
Black Knife Armor Set
It boasts the highest protective characteristics among other light armor, and its chestplate completely muffles footsteps, allowing you to move completely silently.
This set not only looks great, but also offers good protection against physical and magical damage, surpassing Malenia's set in many ways, while weighing only slightly more. Thus, it is perfect for players who rely on mobility.
How to get the Black Knife set
You can find it in Ordin, the Liturgical City, located in the secret area of the Sacred Snowfield. To get here, you need to collect two parts secret medallion of the Holy Tree and use it on the Big Rold Lift.
Once you reach the city, move along the outskirts of Ordina until you find yourself near the arched passages under the large staircase in the northern part of the settlement. In the first arch lies a dead body, upon examination of which you will obtain the required set.

Warrior Mage Armor Set
It provides the character with good protection against magic, as well as high physical power and concentration parameters. Plus, it increases magic and ice damage from Ashes of War and the magic of shiny stones (by 2% for each part of the set). For this reason, we advise you to take a weapon that can be strengthened with the appropriate abilities.
How to get the Warrior Mage set
It is worn by the wizard Roger, whom you can first encounter in Storm Veil Castle. Then start going through his quest chain. In the end, he himself will die in the Round Table fortress, so all you have to do is take the set from his corpse.
Full Moon Queen Set
This set is superior to the previous set in almost every way, but weighs a little more. The Queen's Moon Crown, although it looks funny, is the most important part of the set, as it increases the character's Wisdom by 3 units, increasing his magical potential.
In general, this set is not able to provide the hero with high protection, so it is definitely not recommended to get under physical attacks of opponents. However, it will allow you to survive magical attacks and protect against a number of negative statuses due to high concentration and physical power.
How to get the Full Moon Queen set
This one is pretty simple - you'll need to head to Raya Lucaria's Academy and defeat the main boss, Queen Rennalla Fullmoon. Once you've got her memory, head back to the Round Table Fortress and purchase the set for 31,000 runes from Enya, the Reader of the Fingers.
Holy Tree Knight Armor Set
A medium set of armor that weighs 2-2.5 times more than the previous sets and is suitable mainly for characters who prefer to use prayers rather than spells. The fact is that the helmet of the Knight of the Holy Tree increases Faith by 2 units.
For a beginner paladin with low Fortitude it may be a bit heavy, but in the later stages this set will be a great option, providing good physical and magical protection.
How to get the Holy Tree Knight set
The helmet can be found in the Elfael location, the Holy Tree's support, that is, not far from where Malenia is, mentioned above. Climb the wooden ladder located near the "Inner Wall of Elfael" and pick up the equipment from the corpse.
As for the other parts of the set, they drop randomly (the drop probability is 2%) from the Knights of the Holy Tree, who can be found in the same secret area.
Best Armor in Shadow of the Erdtree
