In Baldur's Gate 3 Volo is a bard who you must free in a side quest called "Save Volo." In gratitude for his release, he will offer to help get rid of the larva from the brain, although as a result of this procedure you will receive a prosthetic eye.
In this guide, we will tell you where to find the bard, how to save him, what happens if you install his eye, and which eye is better to choose - Volo or Kargi.
Where to find Volo in Baldur's Gate 3
The man is held captive in the Goblin camp (X: -107; Y:433). Once in this place, you will see Volo entertaining the audience. However, he will immediately be taken into captivity, and a quest to save the bard will appear in your quest menu.
How to save Volo
The prisoner's cage is located in the sanctuary. Run north from the stage where Volo performed and you will see a door. Enter it and run forward a little, then go a little to the right and turn onto the stairs on the right - there will be a passage there. Go through it and you will find a kind of cell where the bard is imprisoned.
A little to the right is a goblin named Gribbo. Talk to her and as a result of a short conversation you will be able to choose how to get the key to the cage with the prisoner: an intelligence test, deception, intimidation or ransom. If you choose the latter option, you will have to pay two hundred and fifty gold.
Having received the key, use it to open the cage and free the prisoner. In a conversation with him, you can invite him to join your ranks or send him on an independent journey.
You can use another way to free Volo - this is to destroy all the inhabitants of the camp, so the bard will also join you in the camp.
What happens if you install Volo's eye
Nothing will happen if you decide to refuse the help of a man. If you agree, Volo will begin a very painful procedure, as a result of which he will accidentally deprive you of your eye. For this mistake, the bard will present you with a brand new eye, but not a simple one, but a magical one.
Volo's eye will allow you see hidden objects within a radius of nine meters. In addition, the prosthesis will glow blue.
As for the disadvantages of this solution, there are also some. Your companions will react negatively to having your eye removed, but the parasite will remain in your head. You won't see Volo again. And also, by agreeing to the extraction procedure, you will not be able to give the eye to the Hag in the future.
Which eye to choose - Volo or Kargi
There are two options for losing an eye - with the help of Volo or Aunt Ethel. Both characters will give you prosthetics in return, each of which provides certain bonuses. We talked about where to look for the old lady and whether it’s worth giving her an eye in our separate material.
The Eye of the Hag gives an additional point to Intimidation, but at the same time you also receive a status that lowers Perception. That is, attention tests pass worse. By putting a little pressure on the old woman you will also receive a special Amulet, however it is one-time use and all its effects are temporary.
Volo's Eye does not give negative effects, while allowing you to detect hidden enemies within a certain radius.
Note: You can give away a companion's eye, thus acquiring two artificial eyes at once.
If you decide to choose one eye, then it would be wiser to choose Volo's eye, since it will not impose debuffs on you, and will give you a significant advantage - the constant ability to see invisible objects.
