In Dragon's Dogma 2 The Sphinx is the goddess of riddles who will give you various puzzles, for solving which you can receive valuable rewards. Once you solve them all, you will unlock the "Highest Score" achievement. In this guide, we'll tell you where to find the Sphinx, answer all her questions, and show you how to defeat this boss.

Please note in advance that you will only have one attempt to solve each riddle. If you make a mistake in the second location, you will no longer be able to get the trophy as part of the current playthrough. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you back up your save before going to Sphinx (be sure to turn off the automatic cloud sync feature). You can find it in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\user id\2054970\remote\win64_save.

In addition, you can create an additional save that appears if you spend the night in an inn, and then select it when loading instead of the last autosave. In this case, you will be reborn in the tavern even before you start solving the riddle.

Let's add that to solve one of the riddles you will have to remember where exactly you picked up your first seeker token. We are talking about small medals scattered around the world. So we advise you to take a screenshot of the map or write down somewhere the name of the place where you first discovered such an item.

Where to find the Sphinx for the first time in Dragon's Dogma 2

You can first find it in the Mountain Shrine, located northeast of the Rest Town checkpoint, which can be reached using the cart located in the western part of Vernworth. Once you reach the indicated settlement, follow the road that leads north until you reach the Ancient Battleground.

The maps above show the entire route with key locations marked. When you go through the battlefield, you will meet a character named Oscar. He can give you the side mission "Tolled to Rest".

It is not necessary to complete it, but after accepting the quest, you will simply have to help the guy get into the ruins located above the hill. Inside the crypt, by the way, you can find the grimoire “Nation's Death Knell”, which you can then give to Trisha or Myrdina.

Next, start climbing to the top of the ruins until you see a lone sleeping Cyclops ahead. Deal with the monster and continue climbing up the ledges located along the rock. Eventually you will find yourself in the Worldsend Cavern, which is a system of underground tunnels filled with phantoms. Just run forward along the main path without turning anywhere.

Once out of the cave, you will find yourself in an open area where you may encounter a golem. Deal with him (or just run past), and then turn right and go into the new underground passage. Run forward, going down a little, and, having come to the surface, turn right again, and begin to climb up the stone stairs to get to the Mountain Temple, where the Sphinx is located. We advise you to place a return crystal in front of the entrance to the shrine, as you will often have to return to this area.

Solving the first five riddles of the Sphinx

The Sphinx is quite different from most other boss creatures in that she doesn't immediately attack your party, so you'll be able to chat with her. We strongly recommend that you not attack her first, as in this case she will simply fly away from you, which will lead to failure of the quest “A Game of Wits” even before it begins.

    Mystery of the eyes

Go up to the platform, and then enter into dialogue with the Sphinx and choose the first answer: "Listen to the riddle of the eyes" . The Sphinx will ask you to go down and bring her the most valuable item in this location.

After the conversation, turn around, go down the stone steps and turn into the passage on the right. Don't go up the stairs ahead - instead turn around and look up again. You will see a chest on a dilapidated stone platform. Climb up the ledges to it and open it.

Inside you will find Sealed bottle. After taking it, return to the Sphinx. Under no circumstances open it before showing it to the Sphinx (after that, do not use the vial either, as it will be useful to you in the future). This flask can only be used once before it disappears from your inventory, so if you open it right away, you will no longer be able to solve this riddle.

Enter into a dialogue with the monster, select the desired riddle, and then give the bottle to the monster. The Sphinx will praise you and unlock one of the chests behind her. Inside it you will find the Stone of Awakening, with which you can bring the dead back to life.

    The mystery of madness

Talk to the Sphinx again and choose the next puzzle. She will ask you to bring her the person "you love most." If you are not a fighter, thief or warrior, then you should use a previously picked up Sealed Vial to transport people, as you can put any character in it, and then pull them out of the bottle when necessary.

When it comes to choosing the right person, it's about the person with whom you have the highest level of intimacy. Such characters include Ulrika and Wilhelmina, but first you will need to complete their personal quests or shower them with gifts to improve relations with them. Note that Ulrika can be found in your house, as she will sometimes appear there and ask you to go with her to Harv.

Next, you will need to grab the desired character or place it in the vial, and then use the movement stone to teleport to the return crystal left near the sphinx. Now place your chosen one on the stone platform and chat with the Sphinx.

If you don't want to bother too much with romances, you can try to grab the main pawn or all three, and then place them on the platform in front of the monster. Talk to the monster and say “Yes.” She will most likely agree with your answer and open the second chest, in which you will find a return crystal.

    The Riddle of Wisdom

The Sphinx will ask you to bring your "parent" to her. To do this, you will need to find a Capcom-created pawn inside the Rift with the word "Sphinx" in its name. Here are some more search tips:

    • If you are already tied to the Riftstone of Fellowship, you will be able to summon pawns with special nicknames there.
    • Pawns with the following names will suit you: SphinxParent, SphinxMother or SphinxFather.
    • Note that other players may start creating pawns with similar names, so make sure that Capcom created it (the corresponding inscription will be visible at the bottom of the screen).

Having found a pawn, take it into your squad, move to the Sphinx, grab the desired character and place him on the platform. Then say "Yes" when talking to the monster. As a reward, you will receive the third chest, in which you will find 1200 Rift crystals (currency).

    The Puzzle of Belief

Chat with the Sphinx again - this time she will ask you to give her your most valuable item in order to avoid a terrible death. At the same time, the monster behaves as if you will not get it back. However, in reality, she will return it to you and make a duplicate of this thing, which will appear in the reward chest.

You can give absolutely ANY item to the Sphinx, but we advise you to choose the most expensive or unique item, for example, a return crystal or an awakening stone, to receive a copy of it. To do this, simply talk to the monster and give him the object from your inventory in the exchange menu.

    Riddle on thinking

Chat with the Sphinx - she will ask you to return to the place where you found your very first Seeker token. It is impossible to track this location, so you need to remember it (put a mark or take a screenshot) and then return there. However, this must be done no later than 7 in-game days.

Note: If you still can’t remember where you found your first token, then look at all their locations, which will be indicated in our separate guide. We recommend starting from the location where the game begins.

Having arrived at the right place, examine the surroundings, as on the ground you should notice a new item called a Finder's Token. Take it and give it to the Sphinx. Open a new chest, in which you will find 3 movement stones.

Where to find the Sphinx for the second time

After you solve the first five puzzles, the Sphinx will note that that's all for now. She will add that if you want to continue, then you should find her in a new place, but she will not say where exactly it is. We advise you to immediately run up to the Sphinx after completing the conversation, and then climb onto her back and stand closer to her head. Thus, she herself will take you to the second location. The main thing is to remember to loosen your grip in time to restore stamina.

Note: Apparently, to continue the quest it is not at all necessary to answer all the questions correctly - you can make a mistake a couple of times, since the Sphinx will fly to a new place in any case after 5 riddles.

If you didn’t have time to grab the monster because you decided to open the chest first, then you can simply find it. The Sphinx will settle in the Frontier Shrine, located southwest of the City for a rest. The exact location is shown in the images below.

Solving the remaining five riddles of the Sphinx

In the second location, the Sphinx will start giving out riddles randomly, so just look in our list for the ones that were given to you and view the correct solution.

    The Reunion Mystery

You will solve it automatically as soon as you find the Sphinx a second time, since this was her riddle. Immediately after talking with her, the first chest will open, in which you will find 100 thousand gold coins.

    Riddle of Memories

The Sphinx will ask you how many riddles you have already solved and will ask you to indicate their number using the stone statues standing to the left of the monster. You need to pick them up and place them on the platform in front of the creature.

You need to place the number of statues that corresponds to how many puzzles you have solved at the current time RIGHT. Thus, if, like us, this riddle is your 7th in a row, and you were able to correctly answer the 6 previous questions, then you need to place 6 statues in front of the Sphinx, as shown in the pictures above, and then talk to her and say “Yes.”

Let us note once again that in the second location the order of the riddles may be random, so in your case the correct number of statues will most likely be different. Don't forget to also subtract the riddles you failed. As a reward for solving this puzzle you will receive an Unmaking Arrow, which you should definitely keep with you, as it will be useful to you in the future.

    The Riddle of the Competition

The Sphinx will want to assess your true strength, but at the same time she will force you to wear the Ring of Mockery, which will significantly weaken your attacks, making it practically impossible for you to deal damage to the enemy that appears.

For this reason, you will need to first stun the enemy, and then grab him, bring him to the edge of the area and throw him down. He will not be able to survive the fall, so you will defeat him without any effort. Talk to the creature again to receive a Ring of Ambition as a reward, which increases experience gained for defeating enemies.

    The Mystery of Futility

You will receive a vase that needs to be delivered to Ser Maurits, located in Bakbattahl. At the same time, the vessel is extremely fragile and can break even due to one enemy attack, so you will have to put it on the ground as soon as you see the opponents ahead. If the pot breaks, the Sphinx will simply fly away and you will fail the quest. You cannot use the fast travel system.

Once you reach the city, go to the northern part and find a place called "Mural Byway". Here, next to the fresco on which the Sphinx is painted, an old man will automatically speak to you. It is to him that you should present the vase. If the task fails, you can use a backup save.

Note: Many players note that it is not necessary to carry Mauritsa's jug. It is much easier to take the old man himself to the vessel. To do this, you can either place it in the Sealing Vial you received earlier, or kill the NPC, take his corpse to the vase, and then resurrect him with the awakening stone (you can also just grab him and move to the return crystal). You can find this character in the same place that we showed above.

Taking the vase to Maurits or bringing him to the vessel will solve the puzzle. Talk to the monster again. As a reward, you will receive an Eternal Bond ring, which can significantly improve your relationship with the character if you give this jewelry to him.

    The Puzzle of Differentiation

The Sphinx will show you a picture of the character that you will need to deliver to her. Look at his teeth - he usually has a few missing (picture of him shown below). At least in our case, the character did not have enough of them. Why is it important? The fact is that this NPC has a double brother, who differs from him only in the presence of teeth (sometimes the hairstyle and the location of the scar on the face change).

So, go to the pause menu, open the "Story" section and click on the "Character Log" tab. Here you will find two characters: Dante and Vergil, who are a fun Easter egg for Devil May Cry. Carefully study their images and choose the brother who best suits the requirements of the Sphinx. In our case, it turned out to be Virgil.

Note: If you don't have these characters in your magazine, it means you haven't met them yet. In this case, simply head to the locations listed below and see which one is most similar to your target.

Although the dossier states that Virgil lives in Bakbattal, we found him in the southern part of the City for rest, not far from the tents. He will be walking around this area, so just run around the area until you find the desired character. As for Dante, he wanders in the center of the indicated settlement (see screenshots below).

Once you find the character you want, place it in the Sealing Vial and then take it to the Sphinx. You can also grab him (if you are a thief, warrior or fighter), and then move to the return crystal, or kill him, take the corpse to the creature and resurrect him using the awakening stone.

If you are not sure that you took the necessary NPC, then make another backup copy of your save, and only then go to the Sphinx to change your choice if necessary. As a reward for solving this puzzle you will receive the Whimsical Daydream weapon, designed for the trickster.

How to defeat the Sphinx in Dragon's Dogma 2

After solving all the riddles, the Sphinx will thank you and inform you that it is time for her to fly away. If you don't stop it, it will indeed just fly away, so immediately attack the creature as soon as the conversation ends. The boss will get angry with you and decide to kill you. He will have 4 health bars, so get ready for a long fight.

When the enemy has one health bar left, he will decide to run away. At this moment, equip the character with a bow (the 1st level archer calling will be enough), select Arrow of Destruction in your inventory and then shoot the flying Sphinx to instantly kill her. The enemy will drop several bags of gold (you will receive a total of 10,000 coins) and a Key of Sagacity.

Now go to the large golden chest that stood behind the Sphinx and open it with the key you received. Inside you will find Eternal Stone of Awakening, with which you can resurrect several people at once. You will also complete the "Mind Games" quest.
