In Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) characters differ significantly from each other, with some being able to perform their assigned roles more effectively than others. For this reason, we decided to prepare a hero tier list that will help you choose the best agents for your team and save polychromes.

Criteria for choosing the best characters in Zenless Zone Zero

All heroes, depending on their effectiveness, can be divided into several ranks (classes). The evaluation is mainly based on demonstrating their capabilities in the end-game mode called Zero Cavern, the final levels of which offer the most difficult challenges in the game.

The Zero Cavern consists of five zones, each of which includes several stages of different difficulty levels, where players must fight various opponents. At the same time, enemy combinations change regularly, and at the same time, rewards are updated, so clearing them is one of the main sources of premium currency and rare materials. So it is extremely important to keep heroes with you, with whom it will be easier to clear these floors.

In general, the rating of the best characters was built according to the following rules:

    • The tier list is based on long-term testing of hero mechanics within the framework of CBT3 and is partially verified using data from the current update. In the future, it will most likely be improved, as some aspects of the game have been changed.
    • The basis was the pure power of the character without any outside support. However, it should be remembered that the game has a fairly well-developed team system, allowing heroes to even perform joint combo attacks. Therefore, if Kolyada and Ben, for example, individually do not represent anything special, then together they can easily get into the SS rank. We encourage you to review our command guide for more information on forming effective packs.
    • For analysis, we took characters without open Constellations, that is, C0, with the exception of the main character. As for equipment, each agent uses the best 4-star amplifier for him without “awakening”.
    • The fighter is supposed to be used in a team with the best rotation to maximize their energy regeneration, rather than being calculated based on them filling a full energy bar alone.

Tier list of characters in Zenless Zone Zero

We have conditionally divided all characters into several ranks (classes), reflecting their overall effectiveness on the battlefield:

    • SS rank: powerful and versatile characters that will benefit almost any squad and in any situation.
    • S Rank: Slightly inferior to the previous options in terms of usefulness and ease of build, but are still a great addition to any team.
    • A rank: characters that are average in all respects and have a couple of unpleasant flaws, which is why they may have limitations when forming squads.
    • B rank: this includes fighters with insufficiently high characteristics or imperfect mechanics. They can perform well with proper training and the right team selection.
    • C Rank: Characters that only show viability in certain situations and with the right build.

Note: Heroes of SS rank are of course good, but one should not assume that they are several times stronger than characters of a lower rank. Therefore, you should not constantly chase after them, considering everyone else useless. You can easily create an excellent team with only one S-rank hero or a couple of A-rank fighters.

    SS rank characters

    Ellen

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Ice
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: Victoria Domestic Staff Agency

An excellent main damage dealer with relatively simple game mechanics and high resistance to interruption, making it great for beginners. When you press the dodge button for a long time or twice, it goes into Wandering mode, starting to move around the field in quick jerks, which makes it much easier to avoid enemy attacks.

Basic attacks accumulate Flash Freeze charges, which activate the effect of the same name, causing massive ice damage. Her superpower deals significant area-of-effect ice damage, making it easier to fight large groups of enemies. Plus, she can freeze opponents.

    Zhong Yuan

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Ether
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: Special group of the criminal investigation department

An excellent main damage dealer, capable of inflicting significant ether damage from afar, accumulating charges of enhanced buckshot. Can independently increase its interrupt protection. For now, she is limited in building optimal units, since she is the only member of her faction. The best support for her at the moment is only Nicole.

    Lycaon

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Ice
    • Specialty: Intimidation
    • Faction: Victoria Domestic Staff Agency

He can perfectly fulfill the role of a secondary damage dealer in a squad, since with his charged attacks he accumulates stun points on enemies until he eventually incapacitates them, allowing the main DD to inflict maximum damage on them without any problems. Ideally combined with other ice heroes (and from the same faction), as it increases the unit's damage multiplier when stunned.

Let us add that with his superpower, Lycaon is capable of inflicting enormous ice damage on all enemies located in a certain area. So it performs well when fighting both single enemies and large groups of opponents.

    S rank characters

    Rina

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Electro
    • Specialty: Support
    • Faction: Victoria Domestic Staff Agency

A good support with offensive abilities that can increase the chance of breaking through allies' attacks after using a chain of attacks or a special attack. After switching to another character, Rina increases all damage dealt by the squad. With her ultimate, this heroine can inflict huge electrical damage and push back opponents. Plus, it can increase the duration of the Shock.

    Soldier 11

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Fire
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: Obol Squad

A good primary damage dealer who can imbue his basic attacks and dashes with a fire infusion after using his ultimate or a boosted special attack. She can independently increase her fire damage if there is another character in the squad with the same attribute or the same faction. It’s just that it may be difficult for beginners to get used to its gameplay, since they will have to carefully monitor the timings.

    Kolyada

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Fire
    • Specialty: Intimidation
    • Faction: "Belobog"

A good secondary damage dealer, capable of quickly activating an enhanced special attack, which immediately stuns the enemy and gives a buff that enhances Kolyada’s basic attacks. If Ben is in the squad, she can perform joint attacks with him, increasing the power of some skills, which allows her to even sometimes occupy the role of main DD.

Let's add that her superpower creates a strong explosion, causing huge fire damage in the area and giving a buff to basic hits. Plus, if there is another agent of the same faction or with the same attribute in the squad, the enemy begins to receive more damage from a chain of attacks in a stunned state.

    A rank characters

    Grace

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Electro
    • Specialty: Anomaly
    • Faction: "Belobog"

A good secondary damage dealer aimed at applying debuffs to enemies and buffing certain allies. She can quickly put opponents into a state of Shock, increase their attribute anomaly accumulation, and increase the effectiveness of other Electro Agents. But there are no good electric main-DDs in the game yet, which is why it won’t be possible to fully realize its potential.

    Nekomata

    • Rarity: 5 stars
    • Attribute: Physical
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: Sly Bunnies

A powerful main damage dealer that can counterattack after a perfect dodge, increasing the damage it deals. This combination allows Nekomata to inflict enormous physical damage on the enemy in the shortest possible period of time. With her superpower, she can hit several opponents at once in a wide area in front of her.

Why did we add her to A-rank? The fact is that it is extremely difficult to get used to the gameplay of this heroine. Not everyone will be able to perform perfect dodges to make counterattacks, which in turn leads to a significant drop in the kitty's DPS.

    Anton Ivanov

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Electro
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: "Belobog"

Medium main damage dealer, capable of constantly inflicting electrical damage on enemies after switching to an explosive state. The superpower affects a large area, so he performs well both in battles with single enemies and in battles with a large number of mobs. But Anton cannot boast of high basic characteristics and multipliers, so he loses to many legendary damage dealers, especially in the later stages of the game.

    Sokaku

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Ice
    • Specialty: Support
    • Faction: Section 6

Sokaku's Special Attack is the crown jewel of her kit thanks to the Unfold Flames bonus, the effectiveness of which depends on the Vortex charges accumulated through chains and Special Attacks, as well as her Ultimate. After gaining three stacks, she enters the Frost Banner state, allowing her to deal significant frost damage with a flurry of basic hits. This combination is a little more difficult than other characters, but it's worth it to use. However, as in the case of Anton, due to her mediocre characteristics, she will still not be able to compete with the legendary heroes in terms of damage dealt.

On the other hand, you can use her as a support to reduce the ice resistance of enemies and increase the attack power of the main damage dealer. For example, she goes well with Ellen.

    Enby

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Electro
    • Specialty: Intimidation
    • Faction: Sly Bunnies

In a squad, she can serve as a secondary damage dealer, and her gameplay is quite easy to learn, so she is suitable for beginners. Most of her abilities do not require any special combos or actions, and her passives speed up energy recovery (for herself and Electro allies) and apply stun points.

However, overall it has average characteristics. Plus, the game does not yet have powerful Electro damage dealers that would benefit from the buffs given by Enby.

    B rank characters

    Nicole

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Ether
    • Specialty: Support
    • Faction: Sly Bunnies

A good support, capable of creating energy fields that pull opponents to their center, making it easier to control crowds and deal damage to large enemy groups. It can also reduce the defense of mobs, increase the ethereal damage they receive, and reduce the target's attribute anomaly accumulation resistance. She could be a great ally for Zhu Yuan.

But this heroine has very mediocre protection and health indicators, so we strongly do not recommend keeping her on the battlefield for too long, otherwise the likelihood of her death increases significantly.

    Billy

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Physical
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: Sly Bunnies

Like Enby, he is an easy character to master, since most of his abilities simply deal direct physical damage to enemies. He can play the role of a main damage dealer, attacking enemies from afar, and is good for destroying both single and multiple targets. In addition, his superpower increases the accumulation of attribute anomalies by 10%.

At the same time, Billy has big problems with survivability due to low health and defense values, and at a certain point his damage begins to be inferior to the DPS of legendary characters, which makes him a less attractive damage dealer in the later stages of the game. In addition, it does not provide any buffs to the team and does not apply debuffs to enemies.

    C rank characters

    Corinne

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Physical
    • Specialty: Assault
    • Faction: Victoria Domestic Staff Agency

Corin is a melee fighter whose attacks are primarily aimed at enemies standing directly in front of her. She has a couple of area attacks, but they are not very effective. Although her abilities allow her to reduce incoming damage, grant her invulnerability, and increase resistance to interruptions, due to her low HP and defense, she is still a rather “fragile” fighter who must be constantly monitored.

Corinne's attacks are quite slow and don't allow her to stall enemies for long, which again puts her in a risky position. She is at her best in physical mono packs, where she can quickly interrupt opponents, destroying their resistance to the attribute and leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.

    Ben

    • Rarity: 4 stars
    • Attribute: Fire
    • Specialty: Defense
    • Faction: "Belobog"

An extremely highly specialized character, aimed only at protection. However, he becomes a real salvation for teams consisting of “glass cannons” (they do a lot of damage, but die in half a shot), since he can put a shield on them. Ben himself is extremely slow and unable to inflict any significant damage. For this reason, it should be paired with highly mobile characters with strong attack chains.

Note that Ben pairs best with Kolyada, as they have powerful joint attacks. If you use them in combination with each other, then these characters can be raised to SS rank.
