In Genshin Impact The Paleontological Investigation in The Chasm is peace mission, in which you will need to take pictures of fossils in underground mines. If you're having trouble getting and completing this world quest, check out our guide.

How to start the Paleontological Research quest

Complete the mission called "A Perils in the Dark" and then head to the Geo-Recon Camp located near the Luminous Passages. There, look for a scientist named Khedive and talk to him. Listen to a few of his dialogues until a dialogue option appears: “About the strange stones…” .

If this phrase does not occur, then try to photograph at least one fossil. We advise you to take a picture of the first skeleton located in the starting location of the Breach. After that, chat with Khedive.

Where to take pictures of fossils

The Achievement: Explorer will ask you to find 5 similar fossils and take a photo of them. The map below shows the approximate location of all the objects you need. Next, we will tell you in detail how to get to them. It will be much easier to do this if you have already opened the entire Rift map and activated all teleports.

    Fossil 1

You can get here from the northern teleportation point of the Main Mining Zone. Walk along the wooden platforms to the northwest, and then jump down, enter the passage and go through the rope bridge, behind which there are treasure thieves.

Deal with the enemies, and then go to the glowing marker and click on the "take a picture" button. You will immediately switch to shooting mode, that is, you do not need to take out the camera. Choose the right angle and take a picture of the skeleton.

    Fossil 2

Move to the teleporter in the center of the Temporary Main Adit. Turn around and jump off the wooden ledge, gliding south towards the next skeleton. At the bottom, you should see a glowing pointer. Land there and take a photo.

    Fossil 3

This one will be the hardest. Move to the teleporter in the southern part of the Underwater, and then turn left and climb up the cliff. Once up, keep running forward along the right wall.

Ahead you will see Anemo monument. Hit him with Anemo's ability to create an air current. Jump into it and fly through the wind rings to soar up. Next, hook onto the nearest rock and climb up to the ledge.

At the top you will find a luxury chest. On the opposite side there will be a glowing marker and a skeleton that needs to be photographed.

    Fossil 4

Teleport to the fast travel point in the Underground Waters shown in the screenshot below. Immediately run forward and jump off the edge of the cliff. In the distance you will see a glowing marker. Fly to him. On the wall you will find another fossilized remains of an ancient creature. Take a photo of them.

    Fossil 5

Select the northern teleport point of the last Breach location. Then go into the passage at the back and start walking through the tunnel. When you come to an open area, immediately turn left. There you will see the last glowing marker. Take a photo of the fossil.

After taking all 5 photos of the strange stone, return to Khedive at the geo-exploration camp and show him the pictures. Listen to his new hypothesis. After the conversation, the task will come to an end. As a reward, you will receive 200 adventure points, 60,000 pestilence and 30 source stones.

How to unlock the "Of the Human Heart Many Essays Written" achievement

If you want to get this trophy, then in addition to the world quest, which we talked about in this article, you will also need to complete two more quests:

    • Mycological Investigation in The Chasm
    • Hydrological Investigation in The Chasm

For opening an achievement, 5 source stones are issued. In addition, Khedive will give you Akademiya Recommendation Letter. It is possible that some other mission will be associated with it after the appearance of this region in the game.
