In Honkai: Star Rail A letter from a stranger is companion mission, during which you will learn that Kafka is in a difficult situation and she needs your help. However, can this Stellaron hunter be trusted. If you're having trouble picking up and completing this quest, check out our guide.
Passage of the companion mission "Letter from a Stranger"
How to start a task
Access to this quest will open only on August 9, 2023. Before you can take on its implementation, you will need to comply with a couple of conditions, namely:
- Reach at least 32 Mastering level.
- Complete the story mission titled "Courageous Dragon in the Vast Ocean" from the chain "Hyperion Tower".
Having dealt with the above requirements, wait for the special message to arrive on your smartphone. In this case, your character can be in any location. If nothing happens, then try teleporting to another area or/and log out of your account, wait 20-30 minutes and re-enter the game.
Note: If during the correspondence you say that you do not believe that Kafka is talking to you, then she will send you her photograph.
Talk to Himeko and Velt (Optional)
Before leaving for the meeting point, you can return to the Star Express (Shared Car) and chat with Welt and Himeko there. Show them a message from Kafka. They will note that they do not know the exact intentions of the girl, but they believe that she is unlikely to want to harm us in any way. Maybe she really needs our help.
Tell us about Kafka in the House of Divine Foresight (optional)
You can also go to the indicated location, the entrance to which is located in the Exalted Sanctuary. However, when you get close to the guard, the Pathfinder will stop you and note that you should first find out the exact location of the Stellaron hunter.
Head to Kafka
Travel to the Fortune Divination Platform teleporter located in the Divination Commission, and then head north. You will find Kafka next to open windows where you can see Blade. Enter into a dialogue with the girl.
Help Kafka or not
She will ask you for help. You can help her or refuse - this will affect the ending of the mission and the achievement given out, that is, you can only get one achievement per account. Let's take a brief look at both options.
Refused to help Kafka
To do this, you must first tell her: "No, I want to say that I refuse"
and then answer: "No, I am leaving"
. As a result, the companion's mission will immediately end, and you will receive a reward, that is, you will not have to complete any additional tasks. You will also be given an achievement "True Free Will".
Then move to another location and return back - Kafka and Blade will no longer be here, but you will find a note from the Stellaron hunter. It will say that Elio sees the future, but cannot interfere with our choice. We are all "slaves of fate", but Kafka hopes that we are not subject to her, and this is exactly what the girl likes in us. In the end, she wants us to get to the end of the story in her own way.
The next real day after the server reset, you will receive another message from Kafka on your phone. In it, she will again talk about free will and our choice. You can answer her however you want, as it will not affect anything.
Agreed to help Kafka
For this option, you need to say "Yeah, looks like you need it"
. As a result, the quest will continue, and you will receive quite a few additional tasks. At the end you will be given a trophy "Free will". You will learn that Blade has had an aggravation of Mara, so Kafka needs to conduct a hypnotic session, in which she can be seriously injured or even killed without reliable protection, the role of which we have to play.

Destroy the monsters
You will need to deal with two groups of enemies to the north and south. In the northern part of the location, you have to fight the Ballistarius, the Soldier, and the Inner Alchemist. Their vulnerabilities are shown in the picture below.
In the south, you will have to fight with two internal alchemists and one soldier. Don't forget that soldiers can respawn with half health. Having dealt with all the enemies, return to Kafka.
First question from Kafka
Enter into a dialogue with the hunter. She will allow you to ask her any question, but you will have to do this during the game "true or false". Its rules are quite simple: the participants ask each other two questions, and then they need to answer them honestly once, and lie the second time.
Note: You can choose any answers, as they will not affect the ending of the task, however, some options will allow you to learn a lot about the main character, Kafka and Blade.
Kafka will want to know what we think of her. You can say whatever you want, because our interlocutor will say in any case that we hide our feelings well.
Important: If you lie or tell the truth, then in the second question you need to tell the truth or lie, respectively. If you break the rules, then Kafka will also break them, that is, he will lie twice or tell the truth.
Defeat the Cloud Knights
After the conversation, the Cloud Knights will appear. You can try to persuade them to back off. However, even if you expose Kafka or turn in Blade, the guards will attack you anyway, so you will have to fight them. Their vulnerabilities are shown in the picture below.
Ask Kafka the first question
Go back to Kafka and continue to play truth or lie with her. You can ask her one of three questions:
- Ask about yourself.
- Ask about Blade.
- Ask about Kafka.
Question about yourself
You may want to ask about the history of the Pathfinder, why he manages to contain Stellaron, and how he is connected to Kafka.
If you ask about Stellaron, then Kafka will lie, noting that we are talking about a unique specimen that is not capable of infecting people. This information helped the Silver Wolf hack into the database, and Elio saw a different future.
If you ask About Me, then she will tell the truth: the Pathfinder was artificially created to store Stellaron with the help of the power of Aeon, and Kafka trained him (basic skills and knowledge), but then erased his memory.
If you ask about connection with Kafka, then she would lie and say that Pathfinder is about 25% of her biological child. However, the main character was difficult to educate, so it was decided to "push" him to the Star Express.
However, she can tell the truth to this question, if asked second in line. You will learn that Elio brought the protagonist to Kafka, and his fate is connected with the fate of the girl. It is he who will help her change, and the GG, in turn, will be able to change thanks to Kafka.
Blade question.
You can ask her who exactly Blade is and how he is related to our comrade Dan Heng.
If you ask about Blade's history, then Kafka will lie, answering that Dan Heng was one of Blade's three disciples who teamed up with other adepts and tried to kill his mentor.
If you ask about the connection between Dan Heng and Blade, then Kafka will tell the truth, noting that in the past they were good friends who had a bad influence on each other. But then something terrible happened and they drifted apart.
Question about Kafka
You can ask about her past or the reasons why she decided to join the Stellaron Hunters.
If you ask her who is she, then Kafka will tell the truth, noting that in the past she was a Demon Hunter from "New Babylon", infected with Stellaron, because of which all its inhabitants do not feel fear. She later met Elio and became interested in Eon's offer.
If you ask her who she is when you ask the second question, then Kafka will lie, noting that in the past she was a knight of beauty, that is, she followed the instructions of Idril.
If you ask her why did she join that organization, then Kafka will tell you the truth, answering that she wants to change and feel real fear, which she does not know. She also desires to fill the gap in her mind and heart. According to her, she will be able to achieve her goal if she continues to listen to Elio's instructions.
Change the future - dodge combat (optional)
Fighting enemies is optional - for this you will need to solve a couple of puzzles with jade schemes. Head south and interact with the console near the gate (wait until the enemy moves away). Next, solve the riddle (the whole process is shown in the GIF below).
Now head north to where the broken auromaton is and interact with it. You will need to solve the second puzzle (the whole process is shown in the gif below). Once you've solved both puzzles, talk to Kafka again.

If you decide to fight opponents, then you have to deal with two groups:
- Apprentices of the Sanctus Medicus: They are vulnerable to Wind, Quantum, Physical, Fire and Ice damage.
- Cloud Knights: They are vulnerable to illusion, wind, and fire damage.
After destroying the enemies, go to Kafka and talk to her.
Second question from Kafka
The girl will ask you if we want to see her again. We can say:
- I want to see Kafka again.
- I don't want to see Kafka anymore.
Then choose: lie to her or tell the truth. Again, if you break the rules, Kafka will do the same. We add that in any case she will say that our thoughts are a mystery to her.
Ask a second question to Kafka
Here you can ask the second question from the previous topics (about yourself, about Blade or Kafka), but in this case you will not be able to find out if the huntress told you the truth. For this reason, we advise you to "Move to a completely different topic", where you can select a question:
- One plus one equals two?
If she says “no”, then Kafka told the truth to the last question, and if “yes”, then she lied to you. However, this only works if you've played her by the rules.

How to beat Yanqing
Next, you have to fight with the Cloud Knight Lieutenant, who is vulnerable to imaginary, wind and electric damage. If you have the wrong team, then you can retreat and take the right damage dealers.
The boss summons blades to battle, which must be destroyed so that Yanqing becomes vulnerable to penetration again. They are also weak to electrical, wind and imaginary types of damage. We add that we are talking about a weakened version of the enemy, so it is much easier to defeat him.
After dealing with Yanqing, talk to Kafka and Blade again. This will complete the task, and you will have an achievement. You will also receive 300 Exploration XP, 100 Star Jades, 6 Desolation Obsidian, 6 Lost Crystals, 60,000 Credits, 6 Traveler's Guides, and a Music Record.
Blade, by the way, will say that he remains on Lofu Xianzhou for now. Don't waste your time looking for him, as this is a teaser for his companion mission, which will be introduced in patch 1.3.
