Japanese anime " Re: ZERO. Life from scratch in an alternative world ”, which managed to win the hearts of millions of fans around the world, finally received exact release dates for season 3. Already in the second half of 2024, we will be able to return to the story of the trapped Natsuki Subaru, who finds himself in a fantasy world with an incredibly heartfelt plot, dramatic, acute social dilemmas and deeply written characters.
In this article we will tell you when season 3 starts and what awaits us in the new episodes, remember the key events of the previous parts and note some interesting facts about the upcoming continuation.
Release date for season 3 of Re: Zero Life from scratch in an alternative world
The creators of "Re:ZERO" officially announced the return of the anime to October 2024. The third season, which reveals the events of the 5th arc of the light novel, has not yet received an exact release date, but the authors are increasingly actively publishing new information on trailers, characters and posters.
Episode release schedule
Both the start date of the third season and the release schedule of individual episodes of “Re:ZERO. Life from scratch in an alternative world” is not yet available in official sources. However, as is the case with most anime, new episodes will likely be released weekly after release, and the story itself will be limited to 25 issues (unless it is divided into two parts). It is expected that from October 2024 there will be 2-4 episodes per month.

Natsuki Subaru is a young Japanese man with a completely ordinary life who, for unknown reasons, finds himself in a real fantasy Middle Ages. Magic, knights and princesses, unusual races and beautiful girls around - all this could become a dream come true, if not for the gifted ability to return from the dead. Anyone would have thought that he had become the main character if each time he had not gone through the death throes, turning back time and forcing him to lose his stubbornly built relationships with a new world without the opportunity to tell others. Who will be satisfied with a life in which you are not strong enough in the face of danger, and the only way to fix everything is real, painful death?
Subaru's adventures begin with meeting the half-elf sorceress Emilia. The young man decides to help a beautiful girl, as a result of which he learns about his power of “posthumous return”, gets involved in the struggle for the throne and the dark affairs of the Witch’s cult - a dangerous organization driven by the desire to bring the evil sorceress Satella back to life.
In the first season, the hero more than once shows himself from a vulnerable side, falling into youthful maximalism, and then seriously suffering from rash words and actions. At the same time, a caste of the main characters is formed around Subaru: Emilia, as well as the guests of the Roswaal mansion: Beatrice, Rem and Ram. The guy goes through a series of repeated setbacks in an attempt to help find the emblem of the silver-haired half-elf, understand the secrets of the mansion and prevent the threat from the cultists.
The second season, which picks up the 4th arc of the original web novel, revolves around the incident with Rem, as well as the backstories of Beatrice and Emilia. Natsuki becomes personally convinced of the existence of the Witches of Sins, realizes that he could become a tool in the hands of Roswaal and meets some of the antagonists of season 3: Regulus, Roy and Pandora. To get out of the rut of resurrections, the hero will have to understand himself and help his friends look into the eyes of their past, gain the favor of Beatrice and prevent a disaster in the Cremaldi forest.
Details of the new season of Re: Zero
A year after the events of the second season, Subaru and a company of companions will go to the Water Gate City (Pristella) to participate in the next stage of the election for the ruler of Lugunica. We are waiting for a film adaptation of the 5th story arc of the light novel, consisting of several narrative lines, revealing even more secondary characters and the progress of the development of the main character’s powers.
The authors managed to share the concepts of Subaru and his main companions for this season, as we will see them at the beginning of the expected continuation (in the illustration above).
Interesting facts about season 3
Let's highlight a few details about the upcoming season 3:
- The third season of “Re:ZERO” covers the events of volumes 16-20 of the light novel and will be marked by the 5th arc “The Stars That Make History”;
- Before the start of the main events of Season 3, Subaru will undergo a series of trainings with Beatrice, master basic parkour and survival skills, and also develop several unique attacks with funny names;
- In season 3, if we rely on the source material, we shouldn’t expect Rem’s awakening. She, her sister, and Roswaal will only feature minimally in the plot;
- The new season is not filled with a lot of battles. But we are presented with a whole pack of antagonists from the Witch Cult, including: Regulus Cornias, Sirius, Roy Alphard and Capella Emerada Lugunica.
