In Genshin Impact Elemental Mastery is a stat that increases the strength of elemental reactions generated by your characters. In this guide, we will tell you exactly how this mechanic works, and how you can increase this indicator using artifacts, weapons, and special hero skills.
How Elemental Mastery Works
Dependence on the type of elemental reactions
We have already indicated above that this mechanic allows you to increase the effectiveness of elemental reactions, which can be divided into two main categories:
- Transformative reactions: charged, Elemental Reaction: Superconduct, Elemental Reaction: Overloaded, stimulation, budding, and Elemental Reaction: Swirl.
- Strengthening reactions: steam and melting.
Damage from transformative reactions are additional damage and only scale based on elemental mastery and character level.
Damage multiplier granted by Elemental Mastery for reinforcing reactions, about six times lower than the multiplier for the above elemental combinations. In addition, the effectiveness of the reaction will depend on the order of the applied elements and the mastery of the elements of the character who made the final blow.
- Melting is increased by 2 times if Pyro is applied to Cryo status and 1.5 times if Cryo is applied to Pyro status.
- Steam is increased by 1.5 times if Pyro is applied to Hydro status, and 2 times if Hydro is applied to Pyro status.
That is, if you, for example, want to maximize the damage from Melting, then you need to hit the Pyro skill on enemies that were previously subject to Cryo attack and the corresponding status was imposed on them. After that, the damage is multiplied by the effect of the elemental mastery of the hero who used the fire skill.
stands apart Crystallization, whose elemental mastery simply boosts shields. So this is a pretty useful setting for characters like Noelle.
Elemental Mastery Formulas
Each type of elemental reaction will have its own formula for calculating the damage bonus from elemental mastery. Above, we have already noted what exactly this is connected with. To begin with, let's analyze reinforcing reactions :
Where X is the elemental mastery damage percentage percentage and EM is the elemental mastery of the character that dealt the second hit. However, for sure you still do not understand anything, so let's look at a small example.
Let's say your character's elemental mastery is 110. In this case, Melt or Vapor damage will be increased by 20.2 percent (excluding other multipliers). If this parameter increases to 310 units, then the damage from reactions will increase by 50.4 percent. These are very large numbers, if you know how to correctly use the reactions.
Now as regards transformative reactions. Their formula for calculating the damage bonus is as follows:
Where Y is the percentage damage bonus from elemental mastery, and EM is the hero's elemental mastery parameter. That is, if the character has this indicator of 220 units, then the effectiveness of overload, charged, superconductivity, freezing and dissipation will increase by 158.5 percent.
At crystallization the formula shows how much better shields will begin to absorb damage due to increased elemental mastery. She looks like this:
Where Z is the increase in the amount of damage that shields can absorb, as a percentage, and EM is the hero's elemental mastery parameter. That is, if this indicator for Noelle, for example, is 170 units, then her shields will be able to absorb 48 percent more damage than before.
These values are then used when calculating the resulting damage multipliers or shield size:
- Reaction Multiplier = (1 + % Elemental Mastery Bonus + % Reaction Bonus)
The ratios of differences from base damage caused by superconductor, dissipation, charged, freeze, and overload are approximately 1 : 1.2 : 2.4 : 3 : 4 respectively (ceteris paribus).
Elemental Mastery can be increased in many different ways, from using certain artifacts to unlocking special constellations. There are also items that can increase this stat for the entire team. Below we will consider all existing methods.
