Fishing in Genshin Impact: where and how to fish

In Genshin Impact Fishing is a special gameplay mechanic that allows you to fish in various waters of Teyvat using fishing rods and bait. Caught fish can be used for breeding in the Kettle of Serenity or for sale to the Anglers' Association.

In this guide, we will tell you how to open the fishing system in the game, where and how you can fish, and what to do with it afterwards. You will learn how to get the Catch Spear, which is perfect for Baal.

How to access fishing

Unfortunately, you won't be able to start fishing right away in the game. To get started, you will need to meet two conditions:

• Unlock system "Serenitea Pot" allowing you to enter your own home.
• Complete the mission called "Exploding Population" .

As part of this quest, you will receive your first fishing rod and bait, so after completing it, you can immediately start catching certain types of fish.

How to find fish ponds

You can understand that Fish is found in the water using circles on its surface. If you can clearly see them, it means that you can catch a good catch here. To do this, approach the corresponding place and interact with it.

When you have caught all the fish in a particular body of water, you will need to wait 3 days until the population is fully restored. The occurrence of new fish in a given period of time is influenced by the alternation of day and night.

Note that each species of fish has valuable specimens, called “decorative fish”. Places where you can catch such fish usually have a more distinct ripple effect (see gif below). Once caught, you will be able to breed it in your abode.

Different types of fish can be caught in different waters, so it will be useful to know where which fish are found. All fishing spots are listed below. We add that for better memorization of the location of the corresponding locations on the map, special marks appeared in the form of a fishing hook. You can set these icons yourself if necessary. We also advise you to keep before your eyes interactive map of the world on which all fishing spots are marked.

Note: Some types of fish can only be caught at certain times of the day. Crystalfish, Abiding Angelfish, and Purple Shirakodai can only be caught during the day (from 6:00 to 18:00). Dawncatcher, Raimei Angelfish and Lunged Stickleback can only be caught at night (from 18:00 to 06:00).

Mondstadt

In the lake, located In the Mountains, you can find only one place for fishing. It contains: toxin-backed Fish, Medaka, Dawncatcher and Crystalfish.

In the reservoirs located in the vicinity of the city of Mondstadt, as well as in the river located in the Valley of the Wind, you can find 3 fishing spots in which you can find:

1. Tea Shirakodai, Red Koi, Aizen Medaka, Toxin-backed Fish, Crystalfish
2. Fish, Bitter Fish, Tea Shirakodai, Medaka, Aizen Medaka, Toxin-backed Fish, Akai Maou
3. Tea sirakodai, Toxin-backed Fish, Aizen Medaka, Medaka

There are 2 fishing spots in the lakes of Stormterror Lair. You can catch here:

1. Crystalfish, Aizen Medaka, Dawncatcher, Medaka
2. Tea shirakodai, Dawncatcher, Aizen Medaka, Medaka

2 more fishing spots can be found near the Dawn Distillery and northeast of Qingce Village. Here you can catch the following fish:

1. Brown Shirakodai, Bitter Fish, Cockerel, Sweet-Flower Medaka, Dawncatcher, Crystalfish
2. Bitter Fish, Toxin-backed Fish, Fish, Aizen Medaka, Dawncatcher, Tea Shirakodai, Akai Maou

Dragonspine

Only one fishing spot can be found in the entire region, located in the lake located in the Outskirts of the Buried Capital. Here you can catch: Medaka, toxin-backed Fish, Snowstrider, tea shirokadai.

Liyue

In the Bishui Valley to the west of the Reed Islands, you can find 3 fishing spots at once. In them you can catch:

2 more fishing spots are near Aozang Mountain and Qingyun Peak. Here you can catch:

1. Tesei angel Fish, Medaka, Sweet-Flower Medaka, Dawncatcher
2. Brown sirakodai, Cockerel, Crystalfish, Medaka, Dawncatcher, Sweet-Flower Medaka

There are 2 fishing spots in Luhua Pool and Tianqiu Valley. Here you will find:

1. Cockerel, Medaka, Crystalfish
2. Brown Shirakodai, Sweet-Flower Medaka, Red Koi, Cockerel, Golden Koi, Akai Maou

The last fishing spot in this region is to the east of the town of Liyue Harbor. Here you can catch: Sweet-Flower Medaka, Dawncatcher, Crystalfish, cockerel and puffer Fish.

Inazuma

There are 2 fishing spots near Narukami Island. The first is on Rito, and the second is just below Amakane. Here you can catch:

1. Bitter Fish, Fish, Glaze Medaka, Akai Maou, Fish
2. Purple Shirakodai, Glaze Medaka, Fish

2 more places for Fish are located on the Nazuchi Beach and northeast of Tatarasuna. Here you can catch:

2. Raimei angel Fish(you can only catch it here between 18:00 and 06:00)

On Watatsumi Island, you can find 2 locations where Fish is found. In them you can catch:

A large number of fish can be found on the island of Seirai. There are 2 places right next to each other. They can catch:

Encanomia

You can catch stingrays in this region. They live only in this underwater kingdom. In The Serpent’s Heart location, on the left island, you can find 2 fishing spots. The first one is on the lower level in the cave. You must have visited this location for the quest "Lotus Eater". The second place is also located in this dungeon. Instead of climbing the wall on the right, you just need to walk forward a little. They can catch:

1. Dawncatcher, Purple Shirakodai, Formalo Ray, Dividinsky ray
2. Dawncatcher, Akai Maou, Formalo Ray, Dividinsky Ray

You can also catch fish in the Womb of the Serpent, at the very beginning of the location. Here there is only one place for fishing, where you can catch a bait:

1. Formalo Ray, Dividinsky ray, Crystalfish and Lunged Stickleback

Achievement: Chasm

These mines can only be fished in two locations, both of which are in the Underground Waterway location. We told about how to get to this area in the passage of the quest. How to prepare for fishing

So, after finding a reservoir with fish, you will need to prepare for the upcoming fishing. We have already noted above that you can meet different types of fish (to find out what types of fish live in the place you found, go to it and press the "F" key) - they will need various fishing rods and baits.

Fishing rods

Like weapons, these tools have certain properties and rarity, so depending on the situation, some of them may be better than others. The table below shows all the fishing rods available in the game, their features and how to get them.

Bait

Bait can be crafted at the Alchemy Workbench. There are several types of baits made from different materials and designed to catch different fish. The table below provides information on each of them.

Note that fishing rods can be viewed in your inventory in the Tools menu, and bait recipes are stored in the Jewels tab. The baits themselves are in the "Resources" section. You do not need to equip these items on the hero - they just have to be in your inventory.

How to fish

With your rod and bait ready, hold the left mouse button (or the attack button on your device) to switch to aim mode. Having chosen a good point, release LMB to cast the bait hook.

It is necessary to choose the right place for casting - if the bait is too far from the fish, then it will simply ignore it, and if you throw it directly at the fish, it will get scared and swim away.

As soon as the Fish is on the hook, immediately click LMB again to hook it, otherwise it will eat your bait and run away. After a successful hook, you will see how your future catch will begin to resist. You will need to hold and release the mouse button to adjust the tension of the fishing line - you will have to keep it in the yellow zone.

A circle with a hook icon will appear at the bottom of the tension scale - this is the progress of fishing. It will only fill up if the line tension is in the ideal yellow zone. Otherwise, progress, on the contrary, will begin to decline. As soon as you completely fill the circle, you will be able to catch a fish.

In some cases, the Fish may begin to resist more than usual. In this case, the line tension speed changes, and the ideal zone will turn orange and will fluctuate a little. When the fishing progress drops to 0, the Fish will try to escape. After that, the tension area will turn red, and sharp jerks will occur.

To end fishing, you just need to press the Esc key and select the appropriate option. To view the species of fish caught, visit the "Archive" section, and then open the "Creatures" tab.

Why you need to fish

Fishing associations

Caught fish can be exchanged at three fishing associations located in three different regions (Mondstadt, Liyue and Inazuma). Each of them offers its own range of products, consisting of unique rods and lures. Don't forget that by choosing the right tools, you can significantly increase your chances of a successful catch.

Mondstadt Fishing Association

Nantaka can be found outside the city, on the coast. Its range is shown in the image below.

Liyue Fishing Association

Jia Wei can be found in the port area of Liyue Harbor. Its range is shown in the image below.

Inazuma Fishing Association

Kujirai Momiji can be found south of the outskirts of Inazuma City. Its range is shown in the image below.

Sumeru Fishing Association

Lamelat can be found near Porta Ormos. Its range is shown in the image below.

Polearm Catch

The main goal of any angler. This is a 4-star spear that is perfect for the 5-star Electro heroine Baal (Shogun Raiden Shogun). It can be get by exchanging fish at the Inazuma Anglers Association. She can also offer materials to awaken him.

Cooking

If you do not have enough fish fillets to cook the appropriate dishes, then you can simply butcher your catch in the cooking menu that opens when interacting with a fire or stove. True, this is far from the most effective way to use the fish.

Breeding ornamental fish

In order for you to be able to breed your own fish in the Teapot of Serenity, you will first need to purchase a blueprint for the Pool of Sapphire Grace decorative object, which is sold by the Liyue Anglers Association. Then place a pond in your abode.
