In Genshin Impact Crystal Butterflies are special creatures that drop a Crystalline Core, needed to craft several important items, including Thick Resin. In this guide, we will tell you how and where is the best way to catch crystal butterflies in different regions of the world.
How to get the Crystalline Core
The use of crystal cores
This material is used in forging and alchemy. Its most important purpose is crafting Thick Resin, thanks to which you can double the rewards for clearing dungeons or completing the arteries of the earth. It can also be used to craft an Adepti Seeker’s Stove and a couple of useful potions. The table below lists their recipes.

How to catch crystal butterflies
So, crystal cores fall out of crystal butterflies, and of any type (Cryo, Anemo, Electro and Geo). The element only indicates in which region the insect lives, that is, Anemo butterflies, for example, can only be found in Mondstadt. One nucleolus drops from one creature.
Like any other wild creatures, crystal butterflies try to run away from the characters approaching them. They return to their places 2-3 minutes after the disappearance of the threat. Their number will not change, even if you manage to catch a couple of them.
Considering that these insects can fly, it is best to take tall heroes into the team, for example, Keia, Zhongli (his pillar will help you climb even higher), Tartaglia, Dilyuk or Tom. Shorties like Qiqi or Klee will not be able to grab a flying butterfly even when using the jump.
Note: If you can’t meet crystal butterflies anywhere, then it’s raining outside. The fact is that in such weather they do not fly. In general, it is better to go hunting at night - they are easiest to see in the dark, as they glow brightly.
We also recommend that you team up with two Anemo heroes to get an elemental resonance that will increase the movement speed of your hunters by 10%. If possible, take Sayu into the group, because thanks to her passive skill "Yoohoo Art: Silencer’s Secret", wild creatures will not immediately scatter when they see your squad.
We also advise you not to chase individual representatives of the species, but to go to places of their large concentration. Below we list the best places to farm Crystal Butterflies. If you want to see absolutely all areas of their habitat, we advise you to familiarize yourself with interactive world map. We add that it is not necessary to try to catch all the butterflies in one place - it will be much faster to move to another area.
Mondstadt
Crystal Anemo butterflies live in this region. They look like little turquoise glowing moths.
Windrise
Near the giant tree, standing near the statue of the seven Archons, you can immediately find 5 crystal butterflies. True, their collection can be difficult with roots that will prevent you from running.
Springvale and Dawn Winery
Move to the village, collect 4 crystal butterflies here, and then teleport to the statue of the Archons, catch a couple of insects here, go down and move straight to the distillery, where you can find 10 butterflies at once.
You can then just hop between Springvale, the distillery, and the Valley of the Wind, grabbing all the insects in your path, or head to another region.
Dragonspine
Here you can find Crio crystal butterflies. Many of them are hidden in snowdrifts, so try to melt them when exploring this region. In general, this is not the best place to farm crystal cores, however, we still advise you to catch at least one butterfly here for a secret achievement "Winter Wonderland".
Liyue
This region is home to the Geo Crystal Butterflies. They look like small yellow-glowing moths.
Gu'yun stone forest
Teleport straight to the entrance to Gu Yun's Realm Dungeon and collect some crystal butterflies here. Climb up the slope and catch two more insects. If you did not have time to collect everyone near the dungeon, then you can go back - they should reappear in this location.
Mount Aozang
Go to the entrance to the dungeon "Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern" located at the foot of the mountain. Then start moving north towards the peninsula. Here you can find 9 crystal butterflies. Note that you can also farm ore here.
When you're done collecting, move to the teleporter shown in the screenshot above and collect a few more cores.
Mount Tianheng
There are two caves in this location. The first is located right in the mountain itself. The entrance to it is guarded by a detachment of hilichurls. Defeat him and go inside. Here you can also collect Noctilucous Jade.
Then teleport to the second fast travel point and reach the entrance to the next cave next to the waterfall. Here you can find 4-5 butterflies. However, be careful, as you may encounter Cryo Abyss Mage.
Inazuma
On the archipelago you can catch Electro crystal butterflies. However, they are not on Yashiori and Watatsumi, leaving only Kannazuka, Narukami, and Seirai.
Tatarasuna
Just fly around in this location, collecting butterflies along the way. Note that a large number of these insects can be found next to the thunder sakura. They should appear here after completing the quest "Sakura Arborism".
In addition, if you received a Bag of Flower Seeds when trying to get drawing of Hamayumi, and then gave it to Hanayama Kaoru and opened the Second Blooming trophy, we advise you to return to this clearing. Here you will not only find sugar flowers, but also crystal nuclei.
Seirai
There are quite a lot of them on this island, but they are scattered throughout the location, so collecting them can be difficult. You can catch butterflies on Seirai if you collect other materials here anyway, for example, Amakumo Fruit.
Encanomia
In this underwater region, you can find electro crystal butterflies, although not very many. They meet in two locations: The Serpent’s Heart and Gorge. The screenshots below show their exact location.
Achievement: Chasm
Surface Quarry
On the surface of the quarry, you can find several Geo Crystal Butterflies, and some of them are right next to the teleportation points. Therefore, you may well go to this location to farm crystal cores. The screenshots below show a few of their spawn locations.
The Underground Mines
Even more are found in the underground mines of the Rift, and next to the teleporters. The pictures below show some good places to farm.
However, we still advise you to farm crystal butterflies at the Dawn distillery, Guyun stone forest, Tianheng mountain and Tatarsun, since in these locations you can collect more than 30-40 crystal cores in a very short time. This amount will last you several weeks.
