In addition to the rather familiar and trivial tests, in Hogwarts Legacy there are hidden chess puzzles that require the player to be a little quick-witted and also aware of the rules of chess games. In this guide, we will tell you how to find, start and successfully complete all known puzzles with chess pieces.
How to find chess puzzles
At the moment, four locations are known where you can practice moving pieces around the board. Each of them is hidden in the corresponding treasure vault, we will indicate their location below.
Note: solving chess riddles can be attributed to fairly late game activities, since passing requires a high level of unlocking spells, as well as the presence of the Wingardium Leviosa and Transformation spells. Check that "Alohomora" upgraded to level 3, and the above magic is already available. If not, don't be discouraged, but just move on through the story until the desired perks are unlocked. Solving puzzles with chess
Puzzle 1 - Cragcroftshire
There are two treasure vaults in this region, and, accordingly, two chess puzzles. Let's start with the first one - the location and entrance are shown in the screenshots below.
Initially, the entrance is sealed. You can open it if you bring the magic cube to the platform near the wall. Find the block to the right of the passage and use the spells "Accio" and "Levioso" to bring it to the target. Then you need to set fire to the cube with any of the fire spells, after which the entrance will be opened.
After running along the corridor, you will find yourself in a room with a chess floor, along which the figures are placed. Use "Revelio" to find objects available for interaction, find a suspicious one among them and use the "Transformation" enchantment on it - it will turn into a chess piece.
The solution to the puzzle is to place the piece correctly on the board, checkmate the enemy king with this move.
Just recall the principle, according to which the move endangers the opponent's piece:
- Queen/Queen: straight and diagonal lines;
- Rook: in a straight line from the king;
- Elephant: on any of the diagonals;
- Horse: “letter G”, that is, two cells in a straight line and one perpendicular, or one cell in a straight line and two perpendicular to it;
- Pawn: on a square adjacent diagonally.
You can get any of the listed figures, just place it in the indicated way relative to the king.
Once the game is won, you will gain access to a chest containing a random piece of equipment.
Puzzle 2 - Cragcroftshire
Move on to the next chess puzzle in this region. The entrance is marked on the map, and it opens with the action of "Accio" on two large rings. The right one will succumb immediately, the left one needs to be cleared of old branches using, for example, the Confringo magic.
Go inside along the corridor, inside you will find approximately the same room as in the first puzzle.
Again recall the principle, according to which the move endangers the opponent's piece:
- Queen/Queen: straight and diagonal lines;
- Rook: in a straight line from the king;
- Elephant: on any of the diagonals;
- Horse: “letter G”, that is, two cells in a straight line and one perpendicular, or one cell in a straight line and two perpendicular to it;
- Pawn: on a square adjacent diagonally.
You can get any of the listed figures, just place it in the indicated way relative to the king.
Use the Revelio enchantment to search the room and change the found item with the help of Transformation. It remains to checkmate the black king, guided by the principles described above.
Puzzle 3 - Lake Marunvim
Another chess riddle is located near Lake Marunvim. Do not rush to run immediately to the entrance, first look into the hut nearby, where the cube is in the cage, which is necessary to activate the passage to the test. Bring it to the platform at the entrance, then work on the cube with any ice spell.
In the puzzle room, follow the old pattern: find a suspicious object, transform it into a figure using Transform, then place it on the cell corresponding to the type of figure.
Of course, do not forget to take the reward from the chest.
Puzzle 4 - Poidseer Coast
The last chess puzzle known to us is located in Poidseer Coast. The passage at the specified point is opened by rotating the blades near the gate. The Depulso spell will help with this: just shoot and spin the flywheels until the valves are fully open.
It remains to find an object available for transformation, get a figure out of it and checkmate the king, as in other riddles. The rewards for this and the rest of the Chess Challenges include a random piece of gear, including one of legendary quality (with a small chance).
