In Sons of the Forest, armor is a defensive piece of equipment that can greatly reduce the damage inflicted on the protagonist by cannibals and mutants. For this reason, you should get good equipment as early as possible. In this guide, we will look at all the armor sets in the game, tell you how to get them, and which of them best protect the character.
How armor works in Sons of the Forest
Armor in the game serves as the second health bar, which appears next to the red life bar and is also divided into segments. Rather, it reflects not the level of protection, but rather the indicator of the strength of the set, because as soon as this indicator disappears, the armor worn by the character will immediately collapse. For this reason, you will have to craft regularly appropriate equipment.
Note that all sets consist of 10 elements (each of them gives 1 segment of the scale; the stronger the set, the fewer cells will disappear during enemy attacks) and have a different color of the strip - thus you will always know what exactly your character is equipped with.
All types of armor, with the exception of golden and creepy armor, cannot be found in any location - you will need to manually craft them using certain materials. Let's add that the golden set is also indestructible, so it has a solid golden stripe (see the screenshot below). How exactly it works, we told at the end of the article.
You should also be aware that none of the presented sets of armor in the game protects the character from the cold or getting wet. For this reason, when deciding to explore snow-covered locations or in case of winter, we advise you to get warm clothes.
How to remove armor
If you have already equipped the character with several elements of armor, then you will not be able to remove them. You will have to wait until the enemies completely destroy them. However, this can be done after finding the golden armor - just put it on, and all parts of your current armor will immediately be removed from you.
Leaf armor
How to get leaf armor
- Crafting materials: Leaves x10 - found at almost every step (just hit the bushes); Cloth x1
- Strength Strip Color: Green
It can be a little more difficult to craft than bone armor due to possible problems finding cloth (plus it is required for many other items). Plus, leaf armor offers noticeably less protection - a native's normal attack removes 3 durability cells (an average value, since a lot depends on the difficulty level you choose and the strength of the enemy).
However, leaf armor also provides a stealth bonus that allows you to avoid cannibals and mutants in "green" areas (fields, forests, and so on). This will help you hide from enemies in the first hours of the game.
Where to find fabric
You can find it in many places. Most often, the fabric lies in abandoned camps, cannibal settlements, shelters and caves. The image below shows the approximate location of the rags. We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with interactive map.
Leather/hide armor
How to get leather/hide armor
- Crafting materials: Deer/elk skin x2, Cloth x1
- Strength strip color: brown
Slightly stronger than the previous set, as a simple native attack removes 2 bar segments, and a strong one - 3. At the same time, it also gives a bonus to stealth, which makes it easier to avoid opponents who rely on their eyes. However, this set does not appear to provide any protection from the cold. In addition, it will be more difficult to create it due to the need to hunt animals.
Where to find leather/skins
First, create a spear and a homemade bow. Slowly approach a deer or elk, and then throw a spear or arrow at it (the first option is preferable until you learn how to aim). If you miss the head, then the animal will most likely not die, but will be injured.
Now just run after the beast until it bleeds to death (you can try to quickly finish it off with a second hit). Next, go to the carcass and butcher it to get the skin / hide. The image below shows the approximate habitats of deer and elk.
Bone armor
How to get bone armor
- Crafting materials: Rope x1, Adhesive tape x1, Bones x4
- Strength strip color: white
She can be called the best option for the early game, since it is relatively easy to get this set because there is no need to look for fabric, and it protects a little better than a leather set - a normal blow from a native removes 1 cell of the scale. True, you will not receive any bonuses to stealth, so enemies will notice you from afar.
Where to find ropes
As a rule, these items lie in caves or near camps. The map below shows the approximate location of the ropes on the island. We decided to show its northwestern part, since it is in it that you will spawn at the very beginning. The red circle highlights a location located on the coast next to one of your spawn locations. There you are guaranteed to be able to find two ropes.
Where to find tape
It can be found in containers lying around near the place where your helicopter crashed. Two Scotch tapes also lie on the coast, not far from one of your spawn points. The screenshots below show the exact location of these items.
How to get bones
At first, it will seem to you that it is not easy to obtain these materials, since they are found only in coffins, native settlements and caves. But it’s not necessary to look for them at all, because you can just mine the bones yourself. To do this, it is necessary to deal with the natives, and then burn their bodies at the stake. You can even throw Molotov cocktails at your enemies without wasting time on lighting a fire.
From one body of a cannibal, you can get 4 bones, which is enough to make one piece of armor.
Spooky Armor
How to get spooky armor
- Crafting Materials: Mutants
- Strength Strip Color: Purple
The best set for the middle game, as it is relatively easy to obtain and provides the character with good protection: it takes 2 cannibal normal attacks to remove 1 bar slot. You don’t need to craft it - just go to some cave or bunker to kill a couple of mutants and butcher them.
After a while, monsters will begin to crawl out of the caves to the surface, which will make it even easier for you to collect armor elements, so you can use it until the end of the game. On the map below you can see the approximate location of the mutants (some locations are underground).
We add that sometimes you will encounter natives wearing this armor. When using long-range weapons, try to shoot such enemies at unprotected parts of the body, otherwise you will waste a projectile or a bullet without causing damage to the enemy and only destroying one of the armor elements.
Tech armor
How to get tech armor
- Crafting materials: Technocloth x1, Wire x1, Adhesive tape x1, Batteries x1, Circuit board x1
- Strength Strip Color: Orange
The most durable armor in the game, as it can withstand 3 normal hits from a cannibal before it loses 1 cell. That's just It's hard to call her the best.. It's all about the complexity of its manufacture. First you will need to find one of the four 3D printers (they are hidden in the bunkers, and their approximate location is shown in the screenshot below), and then collect a lot of rather rare items.
Thus, even if you manage to craft a full set of tech armor, you are unlikely to wear it permanently, since if it breaks, it will not be easy to restore this equipment. We advise you to save it for battles with bosses or elite enemies.
Note: After crafting and equipping all 10 pieces of technical armor, you will unlock a secret achievement called DYNAMO. Plus, LED lights will light up on the armor, but for some reason they are not considered an additional light source by the game.
Where to find printed circuit boards
To do this, you just need to break laptops and music players (their approximate location is shown on the map below), which can often be found in caves, shelters and abandoned camps. From one device you can get at least one printed circuit board.
How to create tech fabric
To craft it, you need to go to any 3D printer and select an item called "Tech Mesh"
. Its manufacture will require 250 milliliters of resin.
You can find resin in abandoned camps, bunker storage rooms, plastic containers that are scattered throughout the island, and Aboriginal settlements.
Note that you can cheat a little and get access to an almost infinite amount of this material. To do this, find some shelter with resin and a bed. Collect the resource, then save and load the last save file - the resin will reappear in the bunker. You can repeat this trick any number of times.
Golden armor
How to get golden armor
- Strength Band Color: Gold
It cannot be crafted - only found. You can find this set in a bunker located in the northeastern part of the island. We have described in detail how to get to it in separate guide.
This armor cannot be broken, so its bar will be solid. It does not protect against cannibals and most mutants in any way, so with it you will take full damage from them. This set only reduces the damage dealt by demons in lava caves. However, again, in battles with them, it is better to use creepy or tech armor. Thus, its only purpose can be considered to be opening the door with a hand in the final bunker.
Red and gold masks
They are not part of the armor, since they do not increase the character's defense, but we decided to consider them anyway in this article, because they can be indirectly attributed to equipment. By wearing a red or gold mask, you will be able to impersonate a native, so they will stop attacking you.
How to get the red mask
To do this, go to any of the four 3D printers and select an item on the laptop called mask
. Its manufacture will require 150 milliliters of resin. Note that if the natives have already attacked you, then putting on a red mask will not save you from their wrath. It also doesn't work against large cannibals wearing golden headdresses.
How to get the golden mask
It can be found in the same bunker as the golden armor. IN separate guide We have detailed how to get there. It works exactly like a red mask, except that even the leaders of the natives will no longer pay attention to you.
At this point in time, this is all the armor that can be obtained in Sons of the Forest. We hope that this information will help you find and create the best armor in the game.
