In Palworld active skills are Pal abilities that they can use in combat to quickly destroy single or multiple targets. Some skills are noticeably superior to others, so the correct selection of skills can significantly increase the combat potential of a companion.
In this guide, we'll show you how to choose the best active skills for Pals, covering different categories of skills. You will also learn about all the existing methods for obtaining new abilities.
Active Skills in Palworld
What are they?
Active skills are abilities that Pala used in battles. Each of your companions can have no more than three such skills. If desired, players can change them, thereby selecting the optimal set for a particular creature.
All active skills have two main parameters: casting time (reload speed) and power (damage), and relate to one of 9 elements. So there is no universal ability that can hit any enemy in the game. Different skills are suitable for different situations and opponents.
How to get active skills
There are several main ways to obtain new combat skills for your Pals, namely:
- They open naturally by increasing Pala level. Therefore, catch as many creatures as possible, and then explore the world with them and engage in battles with various enemies to level them up. However, remember that the type of skills unlocked are usually tied to the element of creation, meaning the Ice Companion will primarily have Ice abilities.
- Look for and collect the fruits of mastery that grow on special fruit trees scattered throughout the islands. In separate manual we showed their location and talked about how to use them.
- Skill fruits also drop when clearing various dungeons. Both common and extremely rare skills can drop here, including Dark Laser and Paloblast. On interactive map their location is shown.
Let's add that there are also unique skills that only certain types of Palov can have. For example, Cattiva has the ability "Hail of blows", which can only be used by creatures of this type, that is, it will not be possible to get it from the fruit and transfer it to another companion.
Thus, if you need a specific exclusive skill, you will have to add Pal who has it to your squad. However, most of these skills are not the best in the game, so they can be easily replaced by those that drop from fruits.
How to change active skills
Everything is quite simple here. If your Pal has gained a new level and has access to additional attacks, then simply go to the “My Pals” section in the main menu, select the desired creature, and then in the “Active Skill” category, click on the skill you want to replace and select desired ability from the list that appears.
Note: You can also change the skills of the Pals located in the container. To do this, go to the box menu, move the mouse cursor over the desired creature and press the “F” key, where you need to do the same actions as described above.
If you want to give Pal a skill using the fruit of mastery, then open your inventory, right-click on the fruit, and then select the creature to whom you want to transfer the ability. Next, do the same steps as described above.
The most powerful skills
Thorn of the Storm
- Cooldown: 45
- Power: 130
- Innate Skill: Frostallion, Paladius, Ice Kingpaka, Mammorest Cryst, Vumpo
An extremely strong ability that is recommended to be added to both ice and other Palamas, as it is capable of inflicting enormous damage over a large area, several times per strike. It can also freeze enemies. Be sure to take it when hunting dragon-type enemies (such as Jetragon).
Fire ball
- Cooldown: 55
- Power: 150
- Innate Skill: Jetragon, Jormuntide Ignis, Suzaku, Pirin, Kitsune
An alternative to the previous skill if you need to fight enemies with high resistance to ice. It is best used when fighting ice or natural bosses (large crowds of enemies).
Hydro jet
- Cooldown: 55
- Power: 150
- Innate Skill: Yormuntide, Broncherry Aqua, Suzaku Aqua, Azurob, Dumad
An alternative to Storm Spike if you need to fight enemies with high resistance to ice. It is best used when fighting fire bosses (large crowds of enemies). We advise you to definitely keep both of these abilities on hand.
Dragon meteor
- Cooldown: 55
- Power: 150
- Innate Skill: Jetragon
We are talking about Jetragon's unique skill, which leads to the summoning of a large number of homing meteors flying directly to the target. If you fight one enemy, they will deal gigantic damage to him. It is an excellent weapon against creatures of Darkness.
Best active skills against bosses
The previous skills should be considered as ultimates that deal gigantic damage and may well turn the tide of any battle, but take too long to recover. For this reason, it is advisable to equip Pal with a couple of skills that, although they deal less damage, recharge faster.
Two types of skills will be good against bosses. The first includes attacks that inflict status effects such as Burning and Poison, the damage of which depends on the target's maximum health. As such, they are extremely effective against bosses, who usually have a significant amount of HP. These include:
- Poisonous Spit (Darkness) – cooldown: 2, power: 30.
- Fire spark (Fire) – cooldown time: 7, power: 45.
- Fire Shot (Fire) – cooldown: 2, power: 30.
- Fire Arrow (Fire) – cooldown: 10, power: 55.
- Fireball (Fire) – cooldown: 55, power: 150.
- Ghost Lights (Darkness) – cooldown: 16, power: 75.
The second type of skills are attacks in the form of tornadoes. The fact is that they can often hit one large enemy several times at once. Therefore, when fighting big bosses and with the right hit, these skills can cause gigantic damage. In addition, their rollback time is relatively short. These include:
- Grass Tornado (Nature) – cooldown: 18, power: 80.
- Sand Tornado (Earth) – cooldown: 18, power: 80.
- Firestorm (Fire) – cooldown: 18, power: 80.
- Mystical Hurricane (Dragon) – cooldown: 10, power: 70.
Best active skills against regular enemies
If you are going hunting for ordinary mobs, then two types of attacks will come in handy. The first includes area-of-effect skills, since you can use them to destroy many small enemies at once. In addition to the four skills we described above, you can also add here:
- Seed Bomb (Nature) – cooldown: 13, power: 65.
- Inferno (Fire) – cooldown: 40, power: 120.
- Thunderbolt (Lightning) – cooldown: 40, power: 120.
The second type includes attacks that, although they don’t do a lot of damage, have an extremely low cooldown, so you can spam them, quickly dealing with weak opponents. The most interesting options are presented in the list below:
- Wind Dagger (Nature) – cooldown: 2, power: 30.
- Air Cannon (Normal) – cooldown: 2, power: 25.
- Stone Burst (Earth) – cooldown: 10, power: 55.
- Aquajet (Water) – recovery time: 2, power: 30.
- Ice Dagger (Ice) – cooldown: 10, power: 55.
- Dragon Cannon (Dragon) – cooldown time: 2, power: 30.
These are all the best active skills in Palworld. We hope that our guide will help you choose the right skills for each of your combat Pals.
