In Honkai: Star Rail Paper Duel is the main event of Update 2.3, where you will experience the arcade duel developed by the Family by fighting your opponents in special mini-games. As a reward, you can receive a 4-star character from the list, star jades, credits and materials. In this guide, we will tell you how to start the event and complete all its challenges.
How to start the Paper Duel event
The event starts on June 21, 2024, and ends on the 29th of the same month at 03:59 am server time. After this, it will move to the “Incorruptible Memoirs” category, so it will be available to players at any time. However, before participating in it, they will need to meet a couple of conditions, namely:
- Get at least 34th Mastery level.
- Complete the story mission "Stranger in a Strange Land" in the territory of Penaconia.
As soon as you fulfill all the specified requirements, you should automatically begin the event quest of the same name. If this does not happen, then look at the Travel Log, go to the page of the desired event and click on the “Participate” button.
Passage of the quest “Paper Duel”
So, move to the Aft Pool anchor, located on the first floor of Radiant Spar. Then go around the pool and talk to Tina. She will lead you to the first machine with the game and tell you about its rules. Interact with the prototype to start testing.
Next the duel will begin. Read the instructions and then start destroying the fruit. In 4 moves you need to get more points than your opponent. In the gif below we have shown in detail where the icons should be moved to get the required number of points in the first round.
The second round will begin, take the first steps following the instructions. In the remaining 3 moves you need to get more points than your opponent. In the gif below we have shown in detail where the icons should be moved to get the required number of points in the second round.
The third round will begin, take the first steps following the instructions. In 3 turns you need to get more points than your opponent. In the gif below we have shown in detail where the icons should be moved to get the required number of points in the third round.
The fourth round starts. In it, we recommend starting to destroy kiwis, as this will allow you to accumulate charge to use the super skill. In the gif below we showed where the icons should be moved to ensure that the birdie skill is used and the required number of points is obtained.
If you followed our instructions, this will be your last round. Talk to Tina again. The Silver Wolf will then appear and ask you to place your ID card on the machine. The challenge menu will open. Now you can start completing your first challenge.
Golden Challenge
How to complete the quest
After interacting with the machine at the request of the Silver Wolf, select the Golden Test, and then click on the “Search” button. You will automatically be located near the Oti Shopping Center anchor in Golden Moment. Then go to the quest area to the west and approach the dancing billboards.
When you get close to the shields, press the attack button (LMB) to scare them away. Next, pull the origami bird out of the flowerbed. The golden bird will fly away, leaving behind a new slot machine. Return to the ship and launch the resulting machine. The task will come to an end and you can begin the duel.
How to defeat the Silver Wolf
You will play as the Firstflight, which is capable of releasing bombs after destroying 5 kiwis, so we advise you to target these fruits specifically. There are also chests on the map - destroy the fruits adjacent to them to open them and receive bonuses.
Also pay attention to the bouncing fruits - they usually indicate places that can give you a ton of extra points. When bombs appear, try to move them onto the kiwi to destroy all these fruits at once and get several charges for the skill at once.
So, in first round you will need to make 8 moves to get the maximum number of points. The gif below shows all the optimal steps that will allow you to open all the chests in the level. In this case, the Silver Wolf will only have 22 health units left.
In second round you need to open the chests at the top. This will be more difficult to do, so you will most likely have several chests left open. However, in any case, you can take away several health units from the Silver Wolf. In our case, she has 3 HP left.
In third round you will need to try to get to the bombs located under the chests as quickly as possible. We showed all the necessary moves in the gif below. Note that if you connect two bombs to each other, you will create a powerful explosion that will destroy all the fruit. Here you can easily score a lot of points and easily crush the Silver Wolf.
As a reward for this test, you will receive a new bird - the Silver-Winged Wolf. Now you can proceed to the next test.
Vermilion test
How to complete the quest
Interact with the slot machine again and select the Vermilion Challenge from the main menu, and then click on the “Search” button to automatically move to the entrance to the maze in the Studio Clock Theme Park.
Next, go inside the labyrinth and start collecting mosaic fragments along the way. There are three of them in total - all of them are shown in the pictures below. Then go to the canvas and click on it to draw out the bird.
Now you have to assemble the mosaic of dreams. The picture below shows where and what parts should be placed to recreate the complete picture. Some of the fragments will need to be rotated several times.
When you complete the puzzle, you will receive a new slot machine. Then March 7th will appear. Return to the ship with her and go to the slot machine to complete the quest and start a duel against your friend.
How to beat March 7th
This time your bird will be the Silver-Winged Wolf. To activate her ability, you will need to destroy blueberries. Her skill turns a random fruit into a super bomb. Don't forget that you can cause a powerful explosion if you connect two bombs together.
First round pretty simple. First move the peach as shown in the instructions, and then slide the banana to the left to destroy the ice block. Dropping the strawberry on the left will allow you to reach the first bomb. Then everything will go like clockwork. You can see all our moves in the GIF below. In our case, March 7th has all 20 health units left.
In second round you can rearrange fruit bombs to create combo effects. First rearrange the peaches and then the blueberries on the left side. You will receive your first super bomb. Then everything will go easily. You can see all our steps in the GIF below. If you follow them, you will defeat March 7th in this round.
As a reward for completing this stage, you will receive a new bird - Bird 7, which you can use in the next test.
Crimson Challenge
How to complete the quest
Interact with the slot machine again and select the Crimson Trial in the main menu, and then click on the “Search” button to automatically move to the very beginning of the Scorched Sands Qualifying Site from “Delight”. Then approach the soda bottle and the angry hound.
Listen to their argument, after which Firefly will suddenly appear. After finishing the conversation, go to the red tuft sticking out of the floor and pull it to get the Crimson Birdie. She will take the new machine gun to your ship. Now you can play against Firefly.
How to defeat Firefly
This time your bird will be Bird 7. To activate its ability, you will need to destroy strawberries. Her skill turns random fruit into linear bombs that explode the entire row horizontally or vertically - to do this, first collect 3 identical icons or more.
In first round Take the first steps by following the instructions to charge the fuses by destroying the fruits next to them. Then blow up the blueberries at the bottom and the bananas at the top to set off some more fuses. Don't forget to activate your birdie skill by swapping line bombs (fruits with arrows on both sides) to destroy entire rows. All steps are shown in the gif below. We were able to remove almost half of Firefly's health.
In second round first lower the kiwi down to undermine several rows at once and make room for new fruit. Next, focus on charging the fuses on the sides, trying to destroy the fruits near them. In the gif below we showed all our moves. We managed to remove another 33 health units from Firefly.
Third round relatively simple, since you can earn a large number of points at the very beginning of the duel by pushing the strawberries down. Next, simply lift the peach on the right up to destroy the fuses in the center and continue making rows. Below in the gif we showed all our moves.
After defeating the Firefly, you will receive a new bird - the Firefly, which you can use in the next challenge.
Azure Challenge
How to complete the quest
Interact with the main slot machine again and select the Azure Trial from the main menu, and then click on the “Search” button to automatically move to the closed area of the Grand Theater of Penaconia. Then go down to the round platform with mannequins.
Pull the bird out of the dummy's hand, but it will immediately hide, but Robin will appear. After talking to her, you will have to complete the game of hide and seek with the Azure Bird. The mannequin in the center will point its finger at the doll, where the bird is now hiding. Pull it again. Continue following the directions from the mannequins (the pictures below show all the dolls you need) until the bird hides in the mirror, and then remove it from it.
The Azure Bird will take the slot machine to your ship. Go back there and play a new game with Robin.
How to defeat Zaryanka
This time your bird will be Svetloptashka. To activate her ability you will need to destroy bananas. Her skill allows you to create a cross explosion on the field in a random place, which destroys all nearby fruits. We advise you to try to explode fruits with notes to get extra moves.
In first round Destroy the fruit with notes first to get two turns. Then move the peach in the center up to detonate the fuses. This will already be enough to significantly outstrip your opponent. If you follow the steps shown in the gif below, you will be able to deal over 70 damage to the Robin.
In second round Immediately bring the kiwi down to detonate most of the fuses in the center. Next, you need to quickly get to the super bombs below. When you reach them, try to destroy the bananas with them to activate the birdie's ability. In the gif below we have shown the steps required for this. In the end, you will defeat the Robin.
As a reward for winning, you will receive a Zar-bird. Suddenly Jade will appear and invite us to play. Let's move on to the next test.
Final test
This time there are no preliminary missions to complete. You will immediately be able to start a duel with the KMM TOP manager.
How to defeat Jasper
Your bird in this battle will be the Zar-bird. To activate her ability you will need to destroy peaches. Her skill allows you to turn random fruits into square bombs that explode everything within 3 by 3 cells if you form them in a row. The fruits will also be stamped. To remove them you need to explode adjacent icons.
At the beginning first round just follow the instructions, removing the seals from the first fruits. After this, move the blueberries upward and then make a row of peaches. After activating the Zar Bird ability, try to make rows of square bombs (highlighted with a golden halo). All other steps are shown in the gif below. We were able to take about 40 health units from Jasper.
In second round First, destroy the kiwi with a superbomb to remove the obstacles at the bottom of the map. Then create several rows until bombs (highlighted fruits) begin to appear, which must be connected to each other. All steps are shown in the gif below. If you follow them, you will defeat Jasper.
After winning the duel with Jasper, take a group photo with your previous opponents - to do this, just talk to Tina. Then adjust the lens so that all the characters are in the frame and take a photo. This will complete the “Paper Duel” quest and also unlock Online Battle Mode and Free Challenge.
Free trial
You will need to complete all 5 challenges again to receive additional rewards. They will turn out to be a little more difficult than standard battles, but the rules will still be the same. You can try any number of times. Next, we will show in the video how to defeat all opponents.

This is a multiplayer mode where you will take turns competing with each of the 6 players who will be in the same lobby with you. In this case, you will have a chance to fight the favorite a second time if you initially lose only to him. Note that in this mode you can change your birds.
To gain the required number of points, it is not at all necessary to defeat all enemies, so you can just play for fun. Next we will indicate the most suitable birds for this mode.
The best origami birds for dueling
We advise you to take either the Silverwing Wolf or the Zar Bird. The fact is that they both have powerful abilities that will work almost constantly, you just need to launch the appropriate explosive reaction. The wolf will be more difficult to control and more dependent on the player's luck - a lot depends on where the super bomb appears.
Zar Bird's skill is quite easy to use. Don't forget to connect linear bombs with each other to destroy as many fruits on the field as possible.
Rewards for the Paper Duel event
By experiencing the arcade duel that was created by the Family, you can earn imprints of fate, 1140 star jades, self-modeling resin, Travel Encounters and other valuable items as rewards.
Which character to choose
After completing the main challenges of the event, you will be able to claim one of the following 4-star characters:
- Gallagher (Abundance: Fire) is a good healer whose abilities depend on the penetration effect, so he goes well with damage dealers who play through breaking through enemy vulnerabilities (Boothill, Firefly , and so on). Plus, it can apply a debuff, so it will be a good addition to Acheron.
- Hanya (Harmony: Physical) is a good support, capable of increasing the speed and attack power of allies, as well as giving additional skill points and increasing overall damage in certain situations. He is a versatile buffer that can be added to many squads.
- Luka (Nothingness: Physical) is a secondary damage dealer aimed at Annihilation single targets and imposing the “Bleeding” status on them. It goes well with main DD, who need similar debuffers (Acheron, Black Swan, and so on).
- Arlan (Destruction: Electric) is a primary or secondary damage dealer who can perform well in the early game, but over time he begins to be less and less useful, so we do not recommend taking him.
