In Genshin Impact In the Mountains is new world quest, thanks to which you can get a good reward and open Peak of Vindagnyr Dungeon. However, to complete it, you have to find and melt the frozen fragments by solving a couple of puzzles. In this guide, we will tell you where to find them and how to destroy them.
How to start the quest "In the Mountains"
First of all, you will need to talk with Yu Xia, who is located near the entrance to the Dragonspine. After chatting with her for a bit, head to the new region to complete the first task of the mission, which involves finding all the frozen fragments.
How to melt all frozen fragments
After finding a large ice crystal, you will need to melt it by hitting it with normal attacks. In order for them to work, you will need to first collect the Scarlet Quartz lying nearby. After taking it, your character will be surrounded by a red aura - then you can inflict damage on a block of ice.
Frozen Fragment 1
- Location: Frostbearing Tree
Head to the location shown on the map below. After finding the ice block, start collecting Scarlet Quartz, which is also indicated in the screenshot. Some minerals will be guarded by monsters, so get ready for battle. Having dealt with this frozen fragment, go to the next one.
Frozen Fragment 2
- Location: Starlight Cave, located southwest of the top of Dragonspine
The next Elemental Reaction: Crystallize is inside the Starlight Cave. It will be protected by a barrier that will need to be disabled. To do this, find 3 statues that are home to flying fairies. Take the spirits to their hiding places and you will deactivate the force field.
The first fairy is right in front of you (shown in the screenshot). The other two are located behind the frozen fragment. You will most likely have to destroy a few rocks to find them. After that, a Achievement: Challenger marker will appear. Interact with him and kill several Ice Hilichurls and Abyssal Cryo Mages within the allotted time. After that, the Hurdle will fall.
Then collect 4 Scarlet Quartz again to get the power needed to melt the ice. Their location is shown in the screenshot above.
Frozen Fragment 3
- Location: Outskirts of the buried capital, located west of the top of the Dragonspine
Head to the location indicated in the image below. It's not far from the teleport point, so you can easily find the right area. There you will see 5 totems that need to be activated in a certain order (to do this, hit the Cryo monuments with attacks) - follow the flying fairy or repeat the combination shown in the screenshot.
During the activation of the statues, monsters will appear, including ruin thresher which you have to destroy. When you repeat the sequence, a Achievement: Chasm will appear in the center of the circle. Jump into it, keeping to the right side, to pick up a Crimson Agate. At the bottom, you'll see Scarlet Quartz near the Ruin Guardian. Pick it up and hit the fragment.
Next, you will need to free 2 fairies to light the torches and open the lattice gate. The first fairy hovers above the torch near the second scarlet quartz, and the other is hidden in the ice block next to the Ruin Guardian, which can be melted by Pyro's abilities (see screenshots above). Now bring the spirits to the pillars to open the grate. Inside, you'll find the last Scarlet Quartz and a chest.
Note: Apparently, the second fairy appears in a random block of ice.
After taking the quartz, destroy the ice wall in front (shown in the image above) to reveal an additional niche in which the 3rd fairy is hidden. Take her behind the ice Hurdle (you can't go further yet), melt the fragment and destroy the awakened enemies. After that, the Hurdle will fall, and you can bring the fairy to the teleport. Then continue with the quest.
Note: If you didn’t have enough or you spent Scarlet Quartz for no good, then climb the mountain at the point next to the teleporter and the hole in the cave (see screenshots below). There you will find another red stone. Pick it up, and then glide right into the hole to the fragment and melt it. Many thanks for the information and images to the user no name.
Find your way to the top of the mountain
To open the way to the new sanctuary, you will need to destroy the floating Elemental Reaction: Crystallize by finding Scarlet Quartz. Follow the quest marker to get to the desired location.
Where to find Scarlet Quartz
The map above shows the approximate location of all three quartzes. Next, we will indicate their exact location. The first is located next to the disabled guardian of the ruins. The second lies next to the area where the lavachurl is located.
Then go up until you find Anemo's totem. Activate it and fly to the third scarlet quartz. After destroying all the shards and activating all the spheres, a pillar will magically form in the center of the area. Then it will begin to rise higher and higher towards the sky.
Note: All three quartz will respawn until you unlock all the shards. Therefore, first of all, we advise you to open all the block walls with them and unlock the puzzle with the agate chest, and only then melt the fragments.
As a result, you will open the Domain Entrance to the Peak of Vindagnyr dungeon. You can access it by jumping into the hole below. There are five treasure chests here for you to open.
Then return to Yu Xia to report her success and complete the task. You will unlock the Skyfrost Nail achievement, as well as 500 adventure points, 60 source crystals, and 3 experience books.
