In Genshin Impact Through Smoke and Dark Woods is a quest for the Archons and the first chapter of the third Thoma main storyline. During its passage, you will finally be able to get into the Dendro region of Sumeru, where you will meet many new characters and dangerous opponents. Get ready to solve various puzzles as well. How to start "Through Smoke and Dark Woods"
Before you can take on the passage of this task, you will need to fulfill a couple of conditions, namely:
- Raise your Adventure Rank to level 35 and above. We have given advice on how to increase this indicator in separate article.
- Complete the Archons Mission "Requiem of the Echoing Depths", which is the fourth chapter of the second Thoma of the story quest chain.
Once the above requirements are met, the new mission should automatically appear in your quest log (default "J" key). If this does not happen, then try logging out of your account, wait 20-30 minutes and re-login.
A Forest of Change
Travel to the Archon's Dendro Lands
As previously suggested, the exit to Sumeru is in the Rift. The desired point will be marked with a marker. Move to the statue of the seven archons located in this area, and then run forward to the edge of the cliff and glide down from it towards the hut on the ledge ahead. However, before reaching it, turn right to the entrance to the mine (shown in the third screenshot below).
Right next to the passage you will see a teleport. Activate it if you haven't already done so. Then enter the underground tunnel and start moving forward. The road will be straight with no forks, so you won't get lost. Soon you will meet a fairy - follow her to the exit from the cave.
Follow the voice
You will enter a forest thicket. Read the instructions for using the four leaf symbols (similar to the Thunder Orbs from Inazuma). Walk forward to the marker and watch a short cutscene with a silent young lady.
Next, start following this strange passerby. Examine the regular chest along the way. We also advise you to climb the cliff ahead using the four-leaf symbols. The fact is that there you can find the first statue of Dendro Archon in the region. Activating it unlocks part of the map.
Move to the marker near the waterfall. The girl will enter the cave. You will automatically follow her. Watch the new cut-scene in which the Achievement: Hero faints because of the incense. You will wake up in another dimension. Here you just need to go forward along the path and the huge roots of the magic tree.
Then watch another spectacular video. Keep running forward, coming close to the tree. In a new cut-scene, you will hear the voice of an unknown creature, and then wake up. Next, you will have a long conversation with Collei and Tighnari.
Further Observation
Where to find Collei
To do this, exit the house and follow the marker. In the right place, you will find an intern with her mentor. Talk to them and agree to go on patrol. Collei will say that the sentinels also need to check the lighting regularly.
Climb the statue of the seven archons
To check the street lamps, you will simply need to approach them and listen to Collei comments. Then get to the cliff where the statue is. There, talk to the intern of the forest watch, learn from her about the friendship with Amber and Dendro Archon.
Next, you will need to climb onto the ledge, using the four-leaf symbol or simply climbing up. If you haven't activated the statue yet, do so now. Then watch the new video.
Now you can go downstairs and talk to Collei, sitting on a piece of wood. During the conversation, she will react sharply to Paimon attempts to touch her, and then leave to her room. Return to Gandaharva, picking up along the way Dendroculus (on the branch of the tree; use the 4-leaf symbol).
Wait until the next morning by scrolling the time through the main menu. This task will come to an end. As a reward, you will receive 575 adventure points, 2 hero experience, 22,775 pestilence, and 4 magical enhancement ores.
Chronic Illness
Collect herbs from Tighnari
After the dawn of a new day, you decide to visit Collei. Head to the hut marked with the marker. Near the entrance will stand Tighnari. Talk to him. You find out that the girl is unwell due to a chronic illness.
Tighnari will offer to discuss her illness elsewhere. Climb down and approach the marker. Listen to a long dialogue with the head of the watch to learn about Collei past. At the end, the archer will decide to go for the herbs needed to create a new medicine. The Achievement: Hero wants to help him.
To make the Potion, you need a flower called Nilotpala Lotus. It grows near water bodies. Follow the marker, dealing with various moulders along the way. After approaching the desired point, talk to the trainee's mentor again. He will say that we should split up to speed up the search.
Next, you will need to collect 4 lotus nilotpala that swim right in the pond near the waterfall. After collecting the right amount, move to the signpost and talk to Tighnari again. Then Amir will join the dialogue. He will tell you about the Withering Zone. The Traveler decides to help his new friend.
Head to the wither zone
Approach the quest marker near the cliff and watch the new cutscene. Then move towards the area marked on the map, making your way through what looks like a swamp. In this area, you will accumulate Wither (a red counter located above the health bar).
The higher the Wither is, the more the hero's maximum health and resistance to various types of damage will begin to fall. The Achievement: Hero can also lose consciousness. To reduce this negative status, you must use a flame or candles of life (shown in the screenshot above).
How to Clear the Wither Zone
First of all, you will need to approach the green bush and call on the Dendrogranum. Next, you will have to destroy the red branches using charged attacks or shots. It is safer to use archers, as once broken, the branches explode, dealing area damage. The screenshot below shows all 3 withering branches.
After destroying the branches, you will need to deal with a huge mold. Then deal with the wither tumor (big red flower). As a result, you will be able to clear the area of filth. Talk to Tighnari again, who will tell you about an unusual Irminsul tree that grows upside down underground.
Return to Gandharva by teleporting to the archon statue and then glide down. If you didn't collect the Dendroculus last time, you can do it now. Watch the new cut-scene, in which you will learn about Hypasia's problems.
Save Hypasia
Move back to the statue, but this time fly east towards the waterfall. Enter the cave and watch the cutscene. This will complete the task. As a reward, you will receive 575 adventure points, 2 hero experience, 22,775 pestilence, and 4 magical enhancement ores.
Note: We advise you to change the squad in advance before entering the cave, taking your strongest heroes and a shield character (if any). The fact is that in the next quest you will have to fight the Herald of the Abyss, and it will be impossible to change the team.
Silent Seeker of Knowledge
Get to the special hole
When you leave the cave, you will notice that you are in a completely different place - everything around seems to have increased in size. Go through the hollow to reach a spacious area with a chest covered by a barrier. Deal with the molders and take the treasures.
Then approach the Jumping Mushroom and jump on it to use it as a springboard and reach the four leaf clover at the top. As a result, you will fly over to the mushroom ledge a little higher. Next, go through the tunnel and you will find yourself in an ancient room.
Climb down the stairs and jump into the hole. On the right side, open a regular chest, and then turn left towards the sign to return to the original dungeon again.
Find a way to the upper level of the hollow
The road ahead will be blocked by vines. Approach the Primal Amber and interact with it. You will learn that in order to open the Amber Door, you will first need to find three pieces of Primal Amber.
You will again be taken to an open area. Jump on the mushrooms to get to the next passage at the top. Run through the tunnel following the markers. You will come to a small area with a rich chest and hilichurls. Deal with enemies, take treasures and approach the green sphere.
This portal works in much the same way as the Phase Gate from Inazuma. You will climb up and then land in a new area with a second piece of amber. Pick it up. Then use the four-leafed symbol at the top (T key) to climb the ledge and go forward.
Jump down to the giant Mushroom with the third piece of amber. Turn the camera to the right, and you will see another symbol - pull on it to get to the top. Open the amber Achievement: Gate with the collected stones. Move on, and soon you will find yourself in another space again.
How to solve the courtyard puzzle
Climb the stairs and go to the fence, on the other side of which there is a garden with sakura and stones. Strange symbols can be seen on the cobblestones. To solve this riddle, you will need to rotate the camera so that the separate signs form a single picture.
To do this, go to the right side of the room, and then start rotating the camera to form the symbol shown in the second screenshot above. The screen will “float” for a second, and a new door will open on the left side of the room. Go through the opened passage and take the elevator up. As a result, you will return to the original dungeon.
How to get to the upper platform
You will find yourself in another spacious room. Use the four-leaf symbols hanging in the air to climb up. There you will encounter Herald of the Abyss. Watch a short video, and then engage in a fight with the enemy. We recommend that you immediately put a Noelle: Protector on your characters.
If you do not have a shield, then just dodge the enemy's attacks and hit him if possible. When the boss is low on health, he will also create a Noelle: Protector, and it will not be destroyed, so you only need to hold out for a certain time until a new cut-scene starts (perhaps you need to keep hitting the enemy to activate the cutscene).
After completing it, you will return to the cave with Hypasia. Talk to the researcher. You will find out that you were hallucinating. Then you will need to cook food on a fire. Approach the pot at the exit of the cave and select the "Make Bento" option. Now treat the scientist with cooked food.
After talking with Hypasia, return to Gandharva. There, talk to Tighnari and Collea. This task will come to an end. As a reward, you will receive 625 adventure points, 30 source stones, 25,450 pestilence, 2 hero experience, 4 magic boost ores, and a Pita recipe.
The Trail of the God of Wisdom
Go to the Sumeru City
A new quest marker will appear on the map, pointing to the entrance to the region's Dendro capital. You can get there by the main road. Along the way, you can meet a member of the Forest Watch, Rana, who needs help fighting off the mushrooms. After that, you can take the task "The Children of Vimara Village".
On the right side on the ledge you can find a teleport. Activate it to receive a reward and make it easier for you to travel around the area. Move on. Not far from the city there will be another teleportation point. On the left you can find the wandering merchant Sirafi - talk to him for 4 Harr Fruits.
Approach the quest marker and watch a new cutscene where the Traveler will be presented with a unique tool capable of answering almost any question. However, the Achievement: Hero will still not be able to find out how to get an audience with Dendro Archon, so he decides to visit his friend Tighnari.
Visit Rojavi and the Adventurer's Guild
The desired character can be found right near the entrance to Sumeru - turn left and go up to the house. After talking with the scientist, you will decide to talk to Katherine from the Twilight Adventurer's Guild.
Along the way, you can activate another teleport. Then go up the stone path and chat with the girl. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to obtain the necessary information, so you will have to look further.
Travel to Citadel of Regzar and seek out Asfand
The desired location is located in the same city. Continue up the path after talking to Katerina. Then turn right, run a little ahead and turn left onto the path connected to the roots of the tree. At the very top you will find a new teleportation point.
Jump down from the edge of the platform to get to the area marked on the mini-map. Watch a short video in which the Achievement: Hero meets Dunyarzada. Listen to the legend, and then catch up with the girl. Hide With You the young lady in a tavern located in the lower part of the capital.
Watch the new cut-scene where you will meet Dehya, Dunyarzada's bodyguard. Then relax in the tavern, watching another long cutscene and getting to know your new acquaintances better.
Go to the Grand Bazaar
Exit the tavern and move towards the market, which will be pointed to by the quest marker. Arriving at the right place, you will meet the dancer Nilou. Follow her to inspect the scene. After talking with the girl, you will need to walk around the bazaar, talking to 5 locals. All of them are marked with markers, so you won't get lost.
After talking with Katerina, return to the Citadel of Regzar. You can use the previously opened teleport, and then just jump down. A new video will be shown, after which the task will end. As a reward, you will receive 700 adventure points, 27,875 pestilence, 3 hero experience and 5 magical enhancement ore.
Lost in Prosperity
Head to Port Ormos
Travel to the teleport west of Gandharva and then start heading south along the main road. Along the way, you can activate a teleport and a new statue of Dendro Archon to open a new section of the map. Next to the latter is a ruin grinder. Defeat him to unlock a rich chest.
Right next to Port Ormos you can also find a fisherwoman from Sumeru named Lamelat. You can buy a End of the Line Onion, a fishing rod stabilizer and many other useful items from her. After going to the port town, stand on the quest marker to watch a new video.
Ask merchants nearby
After the cut-scene, go forward a little and activate the teleporter. Then talk to the tailor Elham, who will be pointed to by the marker. Next, eavesdrop on the conversation of the students of the Academy, standing not far from them.
Head to the Jafar tavern, located on the other side of the settlement. Stand next to one of the tables. Listen to what the hermits are talking about. Then approach them and find out the information you need. Watch a new video in which the Achievement: Hero will meet al-Haytham.
Catch up with al-Haytham
Run after your new friend. His location will be shown by a marker - he is standing behind the crates near the inn. After the first conversation, find a less crowded place to continue the conversation. Next, you will need to meet with informant Dori.
Speak with Raunak
Follow the quest marker and chat with Latish. Then follow Ruanak to the warehouse. When you arrive, you will need to talk to him. However, quest actions can take place in the area "The Unappreciated Carving" , so you will have to complete it before you can continue with this quest.
When talking with Raunak, you need to try not to reduce the "Trust" bar to zero. To do this, you need to choose the correct answers:
- Congratulations!
- Yes, let them dizzy, so that even in the ears it roared.
- In the style of Port Ormos.
After the conversation, run after Raunak up the stone path. Keep following the quest markers as you climb higher. On the upper platform, you can activate the teleport. At the end, run to the house on the right side.

Ever So Close
Find al-Haytham in the "Filbert" wical
Climb down following the quest marker. Near the desired building you will find al-Haytham. Chat with him. Next, you have to go out of town to test the Knowledge Capsule you received earlier. The required place will be marked with a sign - it is located near the river.
Complete Combat Achievement: Challenger
After a short cutscene, the first test will begin, in which you have to fight a group of molders. After killing them, chat with the researcher again. Next, open your inventory, go to the "Quest" section and equip the character with an Activated Knowledge Capsule.
Watch one more video, after which the second combat test awaits you, where you will again have to fight with molders. After dealing with them, talk to the scientist again. Next, use the clock in the Paimon menu to move the time forward two days to 07:00 am.
Head to the appointed place
Return to the port town and go to Dori. Ask her questions that interest you, and then return to al-Haytham and tell him everything that you managed to find out. It can be found below in the Filbert wical. After talking with him, move to the appointed place in the docks.
Watch the cutscene and then deal with Tumart of Ain al-Ahmar and his henchmen. This enemy is not much different from other deserters (he just has more health), so it is unlikely to cause you problems.
Watch one more cut-scene, after which the quest and the whole chapter will come to an end. As a reward, you will receive 575 Adventure Points, 30 Source Stones, 22,775 Pestilence, 4 Enchantment Magic Ores, and 2 Hero XP. You will also be able to start the next Archons quest "The Morn a Thousand Roses Brings" .
