Pharmacy basement in Baldur's Gate 3: how to search and find Thai's Necromancy

    lyubov

When looking through the gates of the Dead Village in the first act of the game, you can come across a dilapidated building, which turns out to be the home of an apothecary. After reading the owner’s papers left on the table, you will receive a task, which we will discuss in our guide. In this guide, we will detail how to search the pharmacy basement in Baldur's Gate 3, get Thai's Necromancy and open it.

How to search the basement and find Thai's Necromancy

    How to start a task

Near the teleportation point in the extinct village is a large house (x: 38, y: 392) resembling a barn. It's actually an apothecary's house filled with herbs, potions, and books. After reading one of them, pharmacist's records , which are right on the counter - you will receive a quest "Search the basement".

Go down and find the passage

The basement is located right behind the counter where the documents lay, and it is enough to turn the camera a little to notice the hatch in the corner (approximate coordinates x: 38, y: 392). The entrance is not locked, so all that remains is to click on it and you will go down.

We advise you to regularly hold down the left Alt to examine the environment in search of useful items, as well as look into chests and other objects that come across on the way.

In addition to all sorts of things generously scattered around the basement, in the corner you can find "Doctor's Diary" , which, although not required for the task, but slightly opens the screen covering this mystical story. When you're done with this room, find the lever - it's hidden behind some boxes to the left of the bookcase, its exact location can be seen in the screenshot above.

The tunnel that opens will take you to a moldy dungeon lined with coffins. Approaching the center of the hall will awaken strong guardians - undead skeletons, who will immediately attack you. After dealing with the threat, search the fallen and the room as a whole - "dark diary" in one of the coffins will tell a little more about the history of this place and replace the objective of the task. Now you need to find the necromancer's book.

    Decorated mirror: what to answer

On the platform to the right of the coffins is a conspicuous black mirror. The interaction will start a dialogue with him, in which erroneous remarks can lead to unpleasant surprises, so we will look at them in detail.

You can introduce yourself or lie, calling yourself a person from a book, this choice does not matter.

    Further key choices include:

    • "Yes, I'm an ally! Your master's ally" or “I don’t have time to have fun with you. Let me through" - the mirror will ask questions for verification, about them below;
    • (Intimidation) "Open up or I'll smash you to smithereens, no matter what the misfortune" - on a successful throw, the passage will open. This action will cause the approval of some allies, such as Astarion.

When choosing the first two options in the dialog, the mirror will ask questions for verification, we will indicate the correct options for them. Choose in sequence:

    1. Shaas Tam is a scoundrel and a scoundrel.
    2. I read a healer's diary: he used balsam to cleanse the wound.
    3. Any spell that will get rid of this worm in my head.

On failed dialogue rolls or incorrect answers to the test questions, the mirror summons an orb that deals significant area damage (most likely fatal on hard difficulty) and then summons several burly guardians.

    Secret laboratory in the basement

After solving the puzzle with the mirror, you will find yourself in the main room of the basement - look around carefully, the chests in the corners of the room contain several interesting items, including blue-quality bracers, a pack of spell scrolls and a rusty key that opens the grate.

A book is locked behind bars on a pressure plate, it is also the goal of the quest. After picking up the book, the room will fill with fire from the statues on the sides, so the best tactic here is to initially go inside in turn-based mode, and after the dialogue with the book is completed, immediately jump back out (or you can put any item from the inventory on the plate, replacing it with a tome ).

Dialogue Necromancy Thaya: what to do with the book

When interacting with the volume in the dungeon, a dialogue will begin in which the team will face the question of the future fate of the book:

    • The first conversation option will tell you that you can destroy the sinister object with the help of the Guiding Beam spell (present in Shadowheart's arsenal). You don't have to do it right away, you can keep the book for now. But, if you decide to do this way, throwing the tome on the floor and acting on it with a spell, you will summon three Shadows that you will have to fight in battle. After defeating the opponents, the book will be destroyed, and the quest will be completed.
    • Astarion and Gale will express a desire to take the item for themselves (this can also be done immediately, or later, when the book is open).

And you can keep Thai's Necromancy with you, deciding to deal with its riddle on your own. For this you need to find gem key , matching the "lock" on the volume cover.

    How to read Necromancy Thai

    Find Key Gem

The exit from the basement is opposite the grate behind which Thaya's Necromancy was hidden. A lever on the wall will open a passage to the stairs up, and you can get out into the fresh air, although not for long if you are going to look for the key to the book.

After leaving the apothecary's house, you can find a well located in the square nearby. After going down the rope, you will find yourself in another dungeon, where you will soon come out along a winding path to the supplies of an unfortunate traveler.

You can take it out of your backpack student's diary , which will tell a few details about the dangers awaiting you. In the same hall, a fight with spiders will begin, which is only a warm-up before the boss of this area - the phase spider matriarch.

This dangerous enemy is waiting for you in the next room and the fight with him presents a serious challenge for your group: small spiders distract from the fight with the boss, who from afar covers the adventurers with powerful attacks. But victory will reward you with experience and loot - Poisoner's Robe (green quality).

But you can get to the goal without a fight. The desired gem is located on the lower tier under the laying of spider eggs, you can get there in stealth mode, just waiting for the spider to turn away.

    Unlock Thaya Necromancy

After receiving the Dark Amethyst, you can continue the quest about the mystical book. This will result in three successive Wisdom rolls (difficulty 10-15-20), you may want to save in front of them.

Failing this series of rolls will "reward" the character with a permanent effect that reduces subsequent Wisdom checks.

Start a dialogue with the book and select the options "Insert an amethyst in the nest in the book's cover" and "Open book". After three successful rolls, you will be able to partially familiarize yourself with the information in the book, but it will spontaneously close, not allowing you to read yourself to the end.

In this case, you will receive the “Speak with the Dead” ability, and the quest can be continued by reaching Baldur’s Gate.

How to read the last pages of Thay's Necromancy

    All clues

Until the third act it is impossible to learn anything about how to finish reading Necromancy.

While exploring the Lower City or if you have started the “Save the Artist” quest, you can stumble upon someone who knows how to read Thay’s Necromancy to the end.

At the Filgrave Mansion (X:-9, Y:-157), which is located on the river bank next to the Fireworks of Felogir, is located Mystic Scavenger. After passing the attention check, the characters will find a stone door. It can be opened with a password, hacked (25) or using the Knock spell.

If you start a conversation with a character who has read Necromancy, the Mystic Scavenger will note that he smelled death. To the mummy's question " What do you think of this tome? ", you must select the following: " I didn't finish reading it. For some reason I can't make out the last pages »

In turn, the scavenger for a symbolic amount (1500) will offer to ask the spirits for help in finding out what to do next. All you need to do is pass one of the Intimidation, Deception, or Persuasion tests (18).

The spirits will answer that it is necessary to find another book called Tarchiate Code.

The Scavenger will tell us that any magic books can be found in the Magic Supplies store.

However, visiting the Mystical Scavenger not necessary to complete Thay's Necromancy quest.

Also in the basement of the mansion you can find an interesting book on one of the bookshelves (X:-1508, Y:-131). It says about the previous owner of Necromancy Thay. It turns out that Ilin Toth was also interested in the Tarchiate Codex, but never found it.

    Magic Supplies Shop .

The Shop we need is located not far from the rune circle “Central Wall of the Lower City”.

We head to the back of the store on the ground floor, where the bookseller named Tolna will be located.

You need to play along with her and speak only in a whisper, otherwise you will have to fork out money to continue the conversation (400).

Choose "I'm interested in any particularly rare tomes you might have." . From the dialogue with Tolna we learn that the books we need are not for sale and are in a secret place.

Intimidation, Deception, or Persuasion checks (18) will not convince Tolna to give or sell books to us. But she will tell you that the vault can only be accessed from her office.

How to find the entrance to the Witch Cellar and find the Tarchiate Codex is described in this article.

    Read the Tarchiate Code

After going into the Elminster vault, you will find the Tarchiate Codex in the display case.

Important! The book must only be opened by a character who has previously read Thay's Necromancy.

After studying the codex, your character will have a permanent condition "Tarchian Withering", which takes away -5 stamina.

In order to remove it, you will need the “Remove Curse” spell, which a priest, paladin or wizard has.

After removing the curse, a permanent buff appears "Tarchian Blessing", which gives a passive state - Tarchiate Vigor (20 units of temporary health).

After reading the book, select Thay's Necromancy from your inventory and read it again. Before that we advise you to save.

You must pass the final test: read further - snatch from the book the knowledge hidden in it (20).

Thay's Necromancy quest will complete and you will receive the spell "Creepy Dance", summoning up to four ghouls until a long rest, 5 circles of necromancy.
