    In Baldur's Gate 3 The steel guard protects Enver Gortash, which makes it much more difficult to fight him, so it is recommended to disable it by blowing up the foundry. This can be done in two main ways: by receiving a bomb with rune powder from the dwarves of the Iron Hand, or by rescuing the native Gondians from the Iron Throne and supporting them in the fight against the cultists. In the end, you have to defeat the superguard Titan.

    How to start a task

    Usually the corresponding quest is issued after participating in the coronation of Gortash and talking with the newly-minted lord. It is necessary to refuse his offer, after which the main character will come to the conclusion that it is necessary to weaken the owner of the Netherian stone before opposing him, and for this it is necessary to destroy the foundry for the production of steel guards.

    This quest can also be obtained by talking to Wulbren Bongle in a cave located near Rivington, or reading letters from Orin in her camp after she kidnaps one of your companions and you make a deal with her.

    How to get to the foundry

    The Steel Guard Foundry is located in the southwestern part of the Lower City, not far from the Gray Bay Docks teleportation point. There are several ways to enter the factory.

    • You can teleport behind the bars, jump over them, or simply pick them, and then go to the double doors ahead and open them (requires a 20 Sleight of Hand check). Be careful, as there is one steel guard patrolling this side - use stealth mode to avoid getting caught by him.
    • You can also just break through the grate with a blunt weapon and go inside. If you are spotted by a steel guard, you can convince him that you are allowed to be there by passing a Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion check (difficulty level 22). As a result, you will be able to safely move around the area around the factory - we recommend going to the platform (X: -276, Y: -175) on the south side of the building and interact with the lever to open the entrance to the foundry.
    • If you have flight, use it to climb onto the roof of the foundry, and then look for an open hatch there (X: -295, Y: -135). Jump into it and you will find yourself inside the enterprise. Then you can unlock the doors from the inside for the rest of your group.

    Where to find Zanner Toobin

    Once you enter the factory, head west. When you find yourself in the main workshop, a cut-scene will start in which they will show how the cultists force the Gondians to work, threatening to kill their families and blow up their collars. If you are not in stealth mode, the cultists will decide to attack you. You can convince the Gondians to help you by passing an Intimidation or Persuasion check.

    If you fail to persuade the gnomes, they will remain hostile to you until you deal with Tamia Holtz. After her death, the Motivator that the black hand was carrying will activate and you will need to turn it off by passing an Intelligence check (5). Talk to the survivors - they will panic, telling you that their families are being held hostage.

    However, it is not necessary to fight with the guards now - you can continue to secretly go west to the security office. Open the door downstairs or upstairs by passing a Sleight of Hand check (15) or using a key that can be stolen from Tamiya. Inside you will find Zanner Toobin. He will tell you about the Gondian families and his daughter who are imprisoned in the Iron Throne prison, and will ask you to get them out of there. As a result, the task will begin "Save the Gondians".

    How to destroy the Steel Guard foundry

    After talking with Toobin, you can use one of several methods to disable the steel guards:

    • Complete the task "Save the Gondians", getting all the prisoners out of the Iron Throne.
    • Start the task "Avenge the Iron Hand Clan", having received a rune powder bomb at his disposal, at the same time saving the Gondians or leaving them to die.
    • Ignore both tasks, kill Zanner (or let the cultists kill him, provoking a massacre between the Gondians and the cultists), and then use Talk to the Dead on the engineer to learn the code to disable the neural switch.

    Note that if Toobin died, and no one knows how to talk to the dead, then do not rush to restart the game. Instead, examine the corpse and find the diary "Property of Zanner Toobin", which says that the true name Gond can destroy the neurocyte. Now go down to the foundry laboratory and find a bookshelf in its eastern part, to the right of the zombie body.

    In it you will find the book “The Many Faces of Gond”. Read it to find out the password for the neural switch - Nebelun. Now you can destroy the foundry even without the participation of Zanner or the use of a rune bomb.

    Whichever option you choose, you will in any case need to go down to the laboratory floor by opening the door in the security room or using the elevator. Then go north to the big door (X: -195, Y: 458), leading to the Entrance of the Control Center. Open it with the Control Level Key (dropped by the black hand of Hans Ryves) or hack it with a Sleight of Hand check (25).

    Note: If you have not yet freed the Gondians and are in stealth mode, then breaking the door will trigger the alarm and cause the prisoners in the Iron Throne to die.

    You will find yourself in the corridor of the Control Center, where there are containers with brains on the sides. Interact with the jug shown in the picture below to initiate a dialogue. Apparently, the steel guard caught the fugitive dwarf. You can take control of him and free the thief by passing a Wisdom check.

    Go forward through the second door. If Toobin is with you, he will talk to you and tell you about the superguard Titan, and also inform you that he will not go further. Get ready for a difficult battle.

    How to defeat Super Guardian Titan

    So, you have to fight three Hellfire Guardians (level 11) and a Steel Guard Titan (level 12). The characteristics of the latter can be found in the picture below. Note that he is resistant to fire damage and melee attacks, but is extremely vulnerable to electrical damage, so we recommend using appropriate weapons and spells.

    A good choice might be the “Guard Seal: Lightning” spell, with which you can hit two opponents at once: the Titan and the guard standing behind him. You can also use Lightning Chain, Lightning Strike, and other area-of-effect electrical spells to hit multiple enemies at once. Still, the Hellfire Guardians can also cause considerable damage to your characters, so it is advisable to destroy them as soon as possible.

    Do not keep all the heroes in one place - it is better to place them further away from each other so that enemy attacks cannot damage them all at once. This is especially important when titanium activates Defense Protocol: Stronghold, since in this form the boss fires Hellfire Missiles at the area where most of your characters have accumulated, dealing area damage. The impact area is marked with a red circle, from which you should quickly leave.

    In protective form, Titan creates Unyielding design, thanks to which only those attacks that hit him with at least 15 units of damage (for valor - 40) can damage him. For this reason, we advise you not to try to break through the boss, but to focus on destroying ordinary guards. Try to bring them closer to the superguard and only then finish them off, since after death they explode, causing damage to everyone around them.

    Let's add that the boss has a repair matrix, which at the beginning of the turn heals him by 3-24 units of health, so if you start attacking the Titan, then beat him to the end, otherwise after a few moves he will completely recover. When the enemy is one step away from death, he activates the self-destruct protocol - you need to kill him as quickly as possible or escape from the room so as not to receive gigantic damage.

    Note: If the Hellfire Guardians are still alive and at full health, you can let the Titan explode to kill these enemies at once.

    From the boss's metal body you can pick up the legendary longbow Gontre Mael, which can deal necrotic damage and cast Guiding Beam on the target.

    How to kill a Titan in one move

    There is a rather unusual way of fighting the Titan, which allows you to kill the boss and other guards in just one turn. However, for this you will need a huge number of explosive barrels (more than 20 pieces). You probably found them while exploring the world - you had to drag them into your inventory and then send the camp. Now select them, right-click and send everything to the desired character.

    Even if overloaded, the hero will be able to move, albeit slowly. Approach the boss and scatter all the barrels around him (place them on top of each other). Then move away and blow up the barrels with a fire arrow or spell. The explosion will be so powerful that it will most likely kill not only the Titan, but also two or three guards standing nearby.

    How to blow up a neural switch

    After dealing with the enemies, interact with the Neural Switch in the northern part of the room. If Tubin is nearby, he will be able to turn on the self-destruction system himself, asking you for permission to launch it.

    If Zanner is not there or he is dead, then use his code or install a bomb with rune powder taken from Vulbren. Watch the cutscene with the destruction of the foundry.

    Note: If you still can’t destroy the Titan, and you have explosives or Toobin’s code in your hands, then you can secretly make your way to the switchboard. To do this, go into stealth mode, enter the room with the Hellfire Guardians and use misty step to get out of sight of the robot standing directly in front of the console (you can probably use an invisibility potion). Now just interact with the neurocyte and blow it up.

    Note: You can use a rune powder bomb, but still leave it in your inventory. To do this, interact with the neural switchboard with a character who has a bomb in his bag and select the answer option “Focus on the heart of the Neurocyte...”. Now choose another hero and throw a bomb at them outside the foundry, for example, in the camp. Go back to the character in dialogue mode and click on the “Place bomb carefully” option. After the cutscene, you can pick up the bomb where you dropped it.

    In the end, we note that you can kill Gortash even before destroying the foundry Steel Guard. In this case, the Elder Brain will take control of the robots and use them to destroy the factory. At the same time, a timer will be activated in the Iron Throne, causing all prisoners in the underwater prison to die.
