In Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Leda, Freya and Ansbach are new characters whose quests are closely intertwined with each other, so in this guide we will look at the quests of three NPCs at once. Please note that during these missions you will have to make different decisions that will lead to different endings and rewards. In this guide we will talk about all the elections and their consequences.
Important: After defeating Messmer the Impaler and Romina, and setting fire to the Sealing Tree behind the Flowerbud Temple, all quests for characters who are Mikella's followers will end, so do not burn the tree until you complete the specific steps listed below.
Walkthrough of Freya, Ansbach and Leda's quests in Shadow of the Erdtree
First meeting with Leda
You will first meet this knight girl back in Interearth. Deal with Mog, Lord of Blood, and then rest near the nearest place of grace and approach the cocoon. Near him you will find Leda - chat with her, and she will invite you to touch her withered hand, which, in fact, will allow you enter the Kingdom of Shadows.
First conversation with Freya
When you reach a new region, find fragment of a map of Tombstone Plain and head to the place of grace "Cross of Three Roads". Here you will find Freya, a woman in golden armor. Enter into dialogue with her several times until she begins to repeat phrases.
Note that you can also meet Ansbach here (if not, then it’s okay) - he will stand slightly lower than the girl. If Freya isn't here either, then you've most likely already talked to her before, so you can move on to the next step.
Summon Freya to fight the Dancing Lion (optional)
Note that you can summon the Red Mane Knight as an ally to fight the Sacred Dancing Lion in Belurat. After the battle, return to "The Cross at Three Roads", to talk with Freya again and ask her about the cracks on the helmet. She will tell you some information about her past.
Talk to Ansbach near the Cross at the main gate
If you have not yet talked with this character near the indicated place of grace, then do so now. Its exact location is demonstrated in the screenshots below. As with Freya, you need to talk to him several times to exhaust all of his dialogue. Note that if you were unable to find him here, you can later meet him in the Haven of Shadows.
Find Leda's message in Belurat (optional)
Head to the lift east of the arena with the Sacred Dancing Lion, and follow the path until you reach the top of the stairs. On the right side you will find a message telling you about Leda's location.
Find Leda's message at Ensis Castle (optional)
Start clearing Ensis Castle until you reach the cross, having dealt with the Black Knight first. Near the cross you will find a message from Leda, which will say that she is heading to Shadow Haven.
Now just complete Ensis Castle by defeating Rellana to get to Shadow Altus. By the way, you can summon Leda as an ally before the boss battle. Again, this will not affect her quest in any way, so you can skip this moment.
Talk to Leda and Rogovest near the Cross by the Road
Once in Shadow Altus, continue north until you reach the Place of Grace "Cross by the Road". Near him you will find Leda - talk to her several times until she runs out of all dialogue. Then talk to Rogovest, who will give you another map with the location of the crosses.
Next, head to Shadow Haven to see a system message about the destruction of the great rune. It is a trigger for advancing character questlines, so be sure to talk to all relevant NPCs before exploring the fortress and the rest of Shadow Altus.
You can enter the fortress and fight its first boss - the Golden Hippopotamus - or immediately return back to Leda, who will still be standing near the “Cross by the Road”. She will tell you that she has begun to doubt the loyalty of Mikella's followers and will ask who she should investigate. You will have three options to choose from:
- Thiolier - Leda will assure you that he poses no threat, so he will simply disappear from the list.
- Rogovest - Leda will go after him, and the battle between them will take place in the Haven of Shadows.
- Don’t do anything - after updating the location and talking with Leda again, she will tell you that she has decided to poison herself after Rogovest.
Thus, you can choose any of the three options, since Leda will still begin to suspect Rogovest and decide to fight him. Note that to do this, Rogovest must first go to the fortress himself, so exhaust all of his dialogues, and then refresh the area by resting at the “bonfire.”
Find Freya in Shadow Haven
To do this, first get to the place of grace "Storage, first floor" (we talked in detail about how to get there in guide to finding Irises of Grace 1 ). After activating the "bonfire", turn into the passage on the right, and then crawl through the bookshelves into the room to the north.
Pull the lever here and go into the passage on the left. Go up the steps, turn around and continue up. Walk past the second bookshelf and turn left, then take a few steps forward and turn left and right again.
Run past the bookshelves, turn right and go up the stairs. Once on the new platform, use the ladder on the right to climb even higher. Once you reach the top level, go to the center of the hall along the steps, bypassing or defeating the fire knight. Next, walk along the wooden bridge to the south and jump onto the statue suspended from the ceiling.
Run to the head of the statue, and jump from it to the platform in the west. As a result, you will reach a place of grace "Storage, fourth floor". Continue west to reach a balcony, then turn left and go up the stairs. Continue southeast, passing the lights and going up another set of stairs.
Walk forward along the stone platform, without turning anywhere, until you see a passage into the building on the left side. Once inside, turn right and start moving in a northerly direction, avoiding the tables and chairs. Then climb the stairs even higher until you reach the place of grace "Storage, seventh floor", near which you will find Freya.
Talk to the warrior girl several times until her phrases begin to repeat. In her conversation, she will mention Mr. Ansbach, with whom you may have already seen before or have never interacted.
Help Leda or Rogovest in battle (optional)
If you want, you can put an end to the relationship between Leda and Rogovest. To do this, move to "Storage, first floor", and then turn around and use the lift to go down. Exit the building, run forward, go up the steps, and on the left you will find two summoning signs. You have to decide who to help.
What happens if you help Leda
Interact with the red summon sign and help Leda deal with Rogovest. In this case, the character in question will die, ending his quest chain. However, you won't miss much in this case - you just won't be able to summon him to battle Messmer and fight him in the Temple of Flower Buds.
But for killing Rogovest you will receive a full set of his armor. In addition, you can then return to Leda, who will stand near the “Cross by the Road” and chat with her several times in order to receive the Sickle and the Torn Wood-Cross talisman (strengthens the dash attack).
What happens if you help Rogovest
Interact with the golden summoning sign and help Rogovest defeat Leda. In this case, you will receive the Rune of Leda and Ashes of War "Swift Strike" as a reward.
Note that Leda will not die in this case, but you will miss the next part of her quest, and you will only be able to meet her in Enir Ilim, which is why you will miss out on several interesting items. So if you do decide to fight this battle, we We advise you to take the side of the needlewoman by selecting the red summon sign.
Where to find the Scroll of the Secret Rite
Return to the place of grace "Storage, fourth floor", and then go out onto the balcony and turn left. Go up the stone stairs, go past the two lights, deal with the red knight and climb up another ladder. Move forward along the stone platform, and then turn left and go down the steps.
Immediately turn right and you will find yourself inside the building. Walk to the edge of the cliff and turn right - you will see a wooden table on which the scroll you need will lie. If it is not here, then you most likely already managed to pick it up earlier. Check your inventory in the key items section.
Talk to Ansbach about Freya
Return to "Storage, first floor", and then turn left, go between the shelves and turn right. Run along the narrow passage until you find yourself in a spacious room again. Here, go up the stairs, run forward and turn left and immediately right to enter the passage.
Once in the new room, go to the far right corner and you will find Mr. Ansbach here. Be sure to tell him about the problem that Freya has. Only after this can you give him the previously obtained Scroll of the Secret Rite.
Then rest near the nearest place of grace to renew the world, and return to Ansbach - he will have to give you a Letter for Freya.
Important: Once again, we note that you cannot give the Scroll of the Secret Rite to Ansbach until you meet Freya in the Shadow Haven and tell Ansbach about her decision. Otherwise, the old man will simply disappear from this location, and you will not be able to continue the quest of the Red Mane Knight.
Deliver the letter to Freya
Now go back to "Storage, seventh floor", chat with the knight girl and give her a letter from Ansbach. Then speak to her again to receive a Shield in the form of a golden lion as a gift. Rest near the nearest place of grace and you will see that Freya has left.
Return to Ansbach, who will still be conducting research not far from the “Vault, first floor,” and give him the words of the Red Mane Knight. This way you can find out more information about Freya. If the old man is not here, then you can move on to the next step.
Note: If you do not give the letter to Freya, she will die near the "Vault, Seventh Floor" after you burn the Sealing Tree, meaning her quest will end prematurely. From the knight’s body you can then pick up Freya’s full set of armor and Freya’s Great Sword. However, these items can be obtained even if the heroine’s storyline is completely completed.
Help Leda or Mr. Ansbach
Return again to "Cross by the road" and again chat with Leda several times until you have exhausted all her dialogues. She will say that her next target will be Mr. Ansbach. Now you can take part in the battle between these two characters.
Return to the library in Shadow Haven where you spoke with Ansbach earlier. Here you will find two summoning signs: red and gold, allowing you to side with one of the characters. Next, let's look at the consequences of each choice.
What happens if you help Leda
Interact with the red summon sign and help Leda deal with Ansbach. In this case, the character in question will die, which will end his quest chain, so you will not be able to summon him in two battles in Enir Ilim and get some valuable items.
As a reward for killing Ansbach in this fight, you will receive his armor set, Ansbach Longbow and the Retaliatory Cross Tree (boosts attacks performed after a roll or bounce). To get the talisman, you need to talk to Leda again near the “Bonfire by the Road”.
What happens if you help Ansbach
Interact with the golden summoning sign and help Ansbach defeat Leda. In this case, you will be rewarded with the Rune of Leda, the Ansbach Longbow and the Ashes of War "Swift Strike". In addition, Ansbach's quest chain will continue, which will allow you to get even more valuable things in the future.
Plus, Leda won't die anyway, and you'll be able to continue her questline without missing out on anything. So in this battle, we strongly advise you to choose a golden summoning sign and help the old man defeat the girl.
Important: If you have not completed the above steps, then under no circumstances burn the tree in the Temple of Flowerbuds, as then most of the characters will disappear and you will not be able to complete their quest line.
Fight Leda in Enir Ilim
After burning the tree you will be teleported to Enir Ilim. Start passing through this location until you reach the place of grace "Hallway of the Chamber of Purification". Then go up the stairs to the east and into the spacious arena. Here you will find several summoning signs.
Interact with the golden summons to summon up to two allies to your aid (they will appear and then disappear - as it should be), and then click on the red inscription to begin a large-scale battle with several characters at once. In the table below we have indicated all the NPCs who can become your friends or enemies in this battle.
Character | Attitude towards you | Call conditions |
---|---|---|
Ansbach | Ally | Available as a companion if you gave him the Secret Rite Retinue and helped him resist Leda. |
Thiolier | Ally | Available as a companion if you told him the last words of Saint Trine during his quest. |
Nataan | Ally | Replaces Ansbach if he died earlier. |
Leda | Enemy | Participates in any case. |
Dane Dry Leaf | Enemy | Participates in any case. |
Freya | Enemy | Joins Leda if you previously gave her a letter. |
Moore | Enemy | Joins Leda if you choose the "Don't think about it" dialogue option during his quest. |
Rogovest | Enemy | Joins Leda if you didn't kill him earlier during the invasion before burning the tree. |
So, depending on the decisions you made earlier, you will have to fight with different characters, so be prepared for a very long confrontation. This is where Leda and Freya's quest chains will end. Explore the surrounding area to collect loot. From the body of the first, you can pick up the Sword of Leda and the Armor of Leda, and from the second, Freya’s Two-Handed Hand and a set of her armor.
Defeat the final boss with Ansbach
After dealing with Leda and her allies, take the elevator and chat with Ansbach, who will be waiting for you in front of the stairs. Exhaust all his dialogues, and then start going up the steps and, in front of the golden fog, call Ansbach and Thiolier as your allies (if you completed his quest).
Having dealt with the final boss, rest near the “bonfire”, and then look around the arena - you will find the body of an old man next to the wall. Interact with him to receive the Ansbach Armor Set, Obsidian Blade (Scythe), and the Ansbach Furious Blade spell.
At this point, the quests of Leda, Freya and Ansbach in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree can be considered completely completed. We hope that our guide helped you complete them without problems.
