Xuanwen Beast in Genshin Impact: where to find and buy fins

In Genshin Impact Xuanwen are a separate group of monsters that drop feather, moon and deep fins, required to upgrade some weapons. In this guide we will tell you where you can find these creatures and how to defeat them. You'll also learn where to buy and how to craft the materials they drop.

How to defeat Xuanwen

Characteristics of Xuanwen

This is an elite enemy, also called the Lurking Shadow. He has 50% resistance to Anemo and Hydro elements, so it is not recommended to use damage dealers of these elements against him. Its resistance to other types of damage is 10%.

In terms of its stats, it is roughly comparable to other elite enemies such as the rogue hilichurl in terms of health and attack. You can see all the parameters of the beast in the image below (2P, 3P and 4P show the parameters when playing in co-op).

Optimal characters and teams

Primary and secondary damage dealers can be Cryo, Pyro, Geo and/or Electro, but we recommend sticking with the first two elements as they will benefit you the most. The fact is that Cryo heroes will be able to freeze the monster, and Pyro will be able to cause a Melt reaction, which will ultimately stun him when he collects the power of Hydro Adepts.

Geo element characters and/or wielders of a two-handed sword can also be useful, as they are able to trigger the Shattered reaction after Freezing the Xuanwen. The table below shows the best squad options.

Where to find Xuanwen

These monsters live in a region called Chenyu Valley, added to the game With You with the release of patch 4.4. As a rule, they walk alone, but always be prepared to fight two or three such opponents at once. We also recommend keeping it before your eyes interactive map of the new area to better navigate the area.

Southern part of the Chizhang Wall

From the teleport to the south of the wall, follow the road to the east - here you will meet three animals.

After them, head north along the same path to find two more mobs.

Then return to the teleporter and fly south - here two beasts have captured the hilichurl camp.

Northern part of the Chizhang Wall

From the Statue of the Archons, run north. Between the two mountains there is a clearing with flaming flowers, and there is also one Xuanwen Beast.

Then head north to three more beasts.

Two more mobs live near the teleport in the northeast of the wall.

Eastern part of the Chizhang Wall

Two beasts live on the mountain north of the teleportation point near the Chizhang Wall.

Lair of the Suanni Hermit

Three beasts can be found in the northwestern part of the cave boss. The fastest way to get to this place is from the Statue of the Archons, going down to the south, or from the teleport on the nearest island - there you can go straight across the water to the animals.

Mount Linmeng

Two animals can be found on the path at the foot of Lingmen Mountain.

Terrace Chivan

From the teleporter east of the terrace, fly north. Not far from the mountain you can use the carp jump and head west. Head to the small clearing between the two mountains to find a pair of Xuanwen Beasts.

Then return to the same teleporter and run along the path to the south. When you reach the turn, leave the path and continue walking in the same direction to find yourself in a clearing with two animals.

Yaode Valley

One beast can be found on the high ground east of the teleporter in the valley. To avoid climbing mountains, fly from the teleportation point to a hill and halfway up the path, use the golden carp jump.

Then travel to the teleporter west of Yaode and run southeast. Walk along the path with the dead hilichurls - right after them you will see the beast.

Mount Xuanlian

From the teleport in this location, go east, to the river.

Southern Chenyu Hills

Move to the travel point in the southern part of Chenyu and go to the largest island - here you can meet 3 animals at once.

How to get feather, moon and deep fins

As we noted above, these elevation materials drop from Xuanwen, so finding and destroying them is the main source of obtaining fins. You should also know that the rarity of dropped items directly depends on the level of the monsters killed, and, therefore, on your world level. The table below provides all the information you need.

Where to buy fins

Elevation materials can be purchased from Paimon store using Starglitter and Dust. Its assortment is updated every month, which makes this in-game store a good source of resources. Per month you can buy:

• Feather fin x16 – for one piece you will have to pay 5 star dust.
• Lunar fin x12 – for one piece you will have to pay 15 stardust.
• Deep fin x8 – for one piece you will have to pay 2 star shine.

How to create fins

Thanks to Alchemy, you can transform low-level materials into resources of higher rarity. To do this, you will only need to use a little mora and an Alchemist’s Crafting Bench (located in all capitals of Teyvat).

Recipes for creating fins are as follows:

• Feather Fin x3 + 50 Mora = Moon Fin x1 Lunar Fin x3 + 125 Mora = Deep Fin x1

Don't forget that there are characters whose passive talents allow you to save on converting weapon elevation materials, such as the skill Sucrose And al-Haythamah give a 10 percent chance of creating an additional resource, and the passive Dori has a 25% chance of returning the used material.

How to use fins

These materials are required to upgrade the following types of weapons:
