In Sons of the Forest the rifle is powerful long-range weapons, added to the game along with update 0.7. She is hidden in a dark cave with winding corridors, so we decided to make a guide on where to find her. You will also learn if this cannon can be upgraded and how to get ammo for it.
Where to find a rifle in Sons of the Forest
Entrance to the cave
First of all, you will need to find a passage to the cave, located in the northeastern part of the island, not far from a large lake. Getting here at the beginning of the game will be problematic. Plus, you will need certain tools:

So getting a rifle right after the start will not work. When you first visit the cave, the entrance to it will be blocked by boards - break them with an ax. Once inside, pick up the lantern and run straight past the skeleton and the wooden boxes.
How to get to the sniper rifle
Reach the stalactites hanging from the ceiling (bats can fly at you at this moment), and go down a little. Go a little to the right, bypassing the rocks, and keep moving forward. Soon you will come across a group of mutants standing between two boulders - you can kill them or just go around.
Soon you will see a small reflection from the ore on the wall on the right side (first screenshot below). When you spot this light, move towards it. Here you will find a small passage that you need to enter.
After a couple of meters you will reach a pocket with water. Dive into it and, using scuba gear, swim to the other end - you just need to swim straight ahead, past the skeletons. Having emerged, go further, having dealt with another mutant.
You will reach a fork with two passages from which a bright glow emanates. You will need to go to the right, where there are stalactites hanging from the ceiling. Go past the skull hanging from the ceiling. Ahead and to the right on the wall you will see another skull with a candle. A little further lies the corpse of an operative, leaning against the wall. In his hands he will hold a rifle. Don't forget to pick up the ammo box as well.
Sniper Rifle Upgrade
This weapon already has an optical sight installed by default. At the same time, unfortunately, neither a laser pointer, nor a flashlight, nor a silencer can be added to it. Let's hope that such an opportunity will appear in the future.
How to get rifle ammo
This weapon requires special ammunition for a rifle, that is, ordinary bullets for a pistol or shotgun will not work here. You can find the necessary cartridges in special containers for ammunition, which are scattered throughout the island. They are usually found in camps, caves, bunkers, and cannibal settlements.
We advise you to use interactive map of the island to make searching easier. Plus, you can use cheat codes. To get ammunition for a rifle, you need to enter the following console command:
