In Sons of the Forest, the shovel is an essential tool with which you can dig up valuable items or dig holes into hideouts. However, finding this item will not be easy, as it is hidden deep in the cave. In this guide, we will tell you exactly where to find a shovel and how to use it.
Where to find a shovel in Sons of the Forest
You will not be able to go in search of this tool immediately after the start of the game. More precisely, you can do this, but getting to the shovel still won’t work, since for this you will need two more additional gadgets: scuba (rebreather) and cable thrower that are hidden in other caves.
Plus, in the shovel cave you will encounter extremely dangerous mutants, so we advise you to get some kind of firearms, such as a pistol, and powerful melee weapons first. You should also stock up on medicines, explosives, water and food.
How to find the entrance to the cave with a shovel
Having prepared, go to the eastern part of the island and find a passage to a cave near a large river that flows from the mountain and flows into the sea. The entrance itself is located at the intersection of three streams and is closed with wooden boards that will need to be broken.
Where to find a wetsuit
Once inside, go forward a little to the ledge, turn the camera to the left and up, and then use the cable launcher to get over to the other side.
Turn around and dive into the underground lake. Approximately in its center you will find a passage - swim into it. Move forward along the underwater tunnel. Here you will not need to turn anywhere. After 20-30 seconds, you will be able to get out on land.
Go forward and up, while looking to the right. The fact is that near the stone you can find Wetsuit and an air tank. Keep running further. When you reach the slope, just slide down from it. Remember the location you will be taken to, as you will have to return here later.
Where to find a flashlight accessory
Turn around and run towards the lamp on the ground. There will be boxes with consumables and a new passage to the left. Wrap it up and run down the tunnel. You will enter a spacious cave. Examine the corpses ahead, and then go to the lamp, where there will be another entrance.
Run forward through the tunnel to the next large area with the lamps in the center. Right in front of them, you can pick up an accessory for a flashlight from the corpse.
How to find a shovel
Approach the lamp on the ground and turn left near it. Run forward until you find a new passage. Move further up until you reach another area with water. Put on your scuba gear and dive in. The path underwater is linear, so you won't get lost. Once on land, keep moving forward.
Once in the spacious area, start sticking to the right wall to get to another location. Move towards the light ahead and you will finally find the shovel. It will lie near the worker's body.
How to get out of the cave
Return to the location with the water that we asked you to remember earlier (you get here by sliding down the slope). Walk a little forward to the lamps on the ground and enter the tunnel. Take a few steps and don't enter the hole on the left. Instead, turn right and break the rocks. Behind them you will find a stuck mutant.
Throw a bomb or grenade at the monster to clear the passage. Enter it and run upstairs. Soon you will see a hole on the ground - jump into it. Keep running forward and you will find the exit from the cave.

Is it possible to create a shovel yourself
Unfortunately, you will not be able to craft a shovel from the collected materials. For this reason, it will be possible to extract it only in the place indicated by us above.
What can you dig with a shovel
You can dig in Sons of the Forest anywhere. Just grab a shovel, turn the camera down and start digging. But there will be no benefit from this, since the game does not provide for the possibility of creating a trench, a dugout, and similar objects. So why do you need a shovel then?
The fact is that with this tool you will be able to dig out the entrances to shelters (shown in the GPS navigator as icons in the form of green beacons), in which very valuable items are usually hidden, ranging from a crossbow to a personnel key card needed to open doors in the laboratory complex. You don’t have to dig for a long time - just two or three strokes are enough.
