All weapons in Sons of the Forest: where to find

In Sons of the Forest, the main character needs weapons to fight off bloodthirsty cannibals and creepy mutants on a mysterious island. The game can offer a large number of the most diverse weapons, ranging from a slingshot to a military shotgun.

Some weapons can be obtained at the very beginning, while others will have to be found in dark caves and secret bunkers. In this guide, we will tell you where to find them all and how to choose the best ones.

Types and characteristics of weapons

For convenience, we have conditionally divided all weapons in the game into three main categories: homemade, as well as for melee and ranged combat. We add that they all differ from each other not only in appearance and principle of use, but also in characteristics. To see the parameters of a particular weapon, you need to open the inventory and hover over it with the mouse.

You will see three bars of different colors, which represent three indicators, namely:

Green scale (speed) - it shows how fast you can attack with this weapon.
red scale (damage) - it shows how much damage a weapon can do in one attack.
yellow stripe (block) - it shows how well the weapon blocks enemy attacks.

So if you see that all three bars of the found weapon exceed the scales of your current weapon, then it means that it is better in all respects.

Where to find melee weapons

Using it, you will have to engage enemies in close range battles, which is fraught with serious wounds, so we do not advise you to use such weapons when fighting the most dangerous monsters and natives. However, sometimes you simply will not have any other choice due to the lack of ammunition, so you should definitely keep some good edged weapons with you.

Note: By the way, you can bind weapons to hotkeys. To do this, open your inventory, hover your mouse over the desired item, and then click on one of the available hot keys (1-10). Now, after pressing the selected button, you will immediately get the right weapon.

Electrobaton

It can be found in the central-western part of the island, not far from two possible spawn locations for the protagonist. No additional tools are required to obtain this baton, so you can pick it up in the first hours of the game. The screenshots below show its exact location.

With the help of an electric baton, you can temporarily stun enemies, which is especially useful when fighting large groups of opponents. However, it cannot be used indefinitely, as it requires batteries to recharge. You can read more about it in separate guide.

Modern ax

It is located in an abandoned camp in the southwestern part of the island (this is where the hero usually spawns), and no additional tools are needed to obtain it. Here you will find a campground (just follow the sound of the music). Find the corpse of a fighter and remove the ax from his chest. Details about the search for this weapon can be found in separate article.

Fire axe

It is hidden in an underground bunker, so first you have to get shovel. The dig site is shown in the screenshots below. Go down to the shelter, go forward along the corridor and look for an ax on the far wall. Note that it cuts trees faster and deals more damage to enemies, but has a slightly lower attack speed. It can be called one of the best melee weapons in the game.

Machete

It can be found on the north coast, not far from one of the hero's spawn locations and the entrance to the cave. You will find a machete near the deflated inflatable boat shown in the screenshot below. Nobody guards him, so you can get this weapon at the very beginning of the game. True, it does not have outstanding characteristics, so it is advisable to quickly replace this knife with something more interesting.

Guitar

She can be found in a secret bunker located in the central-western part of the island (the exact location is shown in the screenshots below). Inside you will need a staff key card and a VIP card. The guitar lies on the bar in the lounge area, which comes after the pool room. We have detailed itinerary in separate guide.

Chainsaw

Found in the same hideout as the guitar. Stand with your back to the bar where the musical instrument lies, and return to the pool. Then use guest key card to open the double doors, go through the corridor and enter the cinema. Take the chainsaw from the corpse.

Note that the chainsaw is one of the best melee weapons in Sons of the Forest, as it can quickly deal massive damage to enemies. Plus, it cuts down even thick trees almost instantly. It just needs fuel to run.

Hockey stick

A relatively weak weapon, but it can be found in several places - most of them are located in the southeastern part of the island. You can usually find them near golf carts. The screenshots below show the respective locations.

Katana

In terms of damage, it is slightly inferior to the fire ax, but it has a higher attack speed, therefore it is an extremely dangerous melee weapon. You can find it in a secret bunker located in the northeastern part of the island. The entrance to it is shown in the images below. Before you go there, get a guest key card.

The katana is on level 2, where one of the stairs leads. You will find it on a stand, standing in the room where the right passage leads. The entire route to the sword is shown in separate guide.

Cross

It can be found in two locations. The first lies in the same cave as cable thrower. It is difficult to lose sight of it, as a large shadow of a crucifix is displayed on the wall. The screenshots below show the exact location.

The second cross is in the final bunker, which requires VIP key card. IN separate guide we told in detail how to find both crucifixes. Note that it is ideal for fighting demons, as it scares them away and sets them on fire.

Where to find ranged weapons

This applies to both firearms and small arms. With it, you will be able to destroy enemies from a safe distance. However, they all require ammo to shoot, so you won't be able to use them all the time.

Note: If you want to add a firearm to the quick menu, then open the inventory screen, place the backpack on the crafting mat by right-clicking on it, and then right-click on the desired weapon.

Slingshot

It may very well be one of your first ranged weapons, as you can find it near two possible spawn locations for the main character. The desired location is located in an open area and is not guarded by anyone - it is shown in the screenshots below. For shooting, a slingshot requires the presence of small pebbles, which can be found almost everywhere.

Deals low damage and has a very low range. We advise you to replace it with a homemade bow as soon as possible.

Gun

On the island you can find two pistols. The first lies on an inflatable boat drifting near the west coast, and the second is hidden in a bunker in the southeast. Both places are covered in separate guide. There we also told you how to find the mount, laser pointer and flashlight for this weapon. The extra trunk, by the way, can be transferred to Virginia.

The pistol is an excellent firearm with high damage and a high rate of fire. Plus, ammo for him comes across quite often.

Stun gun

It is located in a cave located on the northern coast. You will find a stun gun near a corpse tied to the ceiling. The entire route to it is shown in separate guide. With the help of a shocker, you can stun enemies from afar for 10-15 seconds. It requires electrical ammo to use.

Shotgun

On the island you can find two shotguns. The first one is hidden in a coffin that you will have to dig out with a shovel. The desired grave is located in the northwestern part of the island. Revolver

It is located in an unfinished underground bunker located in the northeastern part of the island. The screenshots below show the dig site. Then go down to the shelter, go down the corridor and turn right. Near the corpse you will find a cannon. It has more lethal power than a pistol, but it takes longer to reload and has a fairly strong return. You can read more about it in our separate guide.

Compound bow

You can find him in another underground shelter located in the southwestern part of the island. The exact location is shown in the pictures below. Go downstairs, go forward along the corridor and turn right. Go to the back of the room and enter the bathroom - you will find a modern bow near the corpse.

Note that this is one of the best ranged weapons in the game, as it allows you to discreetly deal huge damage (many enemies die with one hit to the head) from a long distance. IN separate guide we told in detail where to find this bow, and how to get arrows for it.

Crossbow

Hidden in the same bunker as the staff keycard. The images below show its location. We have considered in detail the entire route to the crossbow in separate article. It can also deal high damage to enemies from a considerable distance, but crossbow bolts are noticeably harder to get than arrows.

How to get homemade weapons

This includes all types of weapons that you can make yourself using the resources you have. To do this, you just need to open your inventory, select the necessary materials, and then click on the gear.

Crafted spear

To create it, you will need the following materials: 2 sticks, a knife and tape. It is well suited for hunting small animals and birds, as well as fighting weak cannibals. Defeating them mutants and other strong enemies will be very problematic.

Homemade bow

You can craft it from the following resources: 2 sticks, rope and tape. IN separate guide We told where you can get these materials. This bow does not do very much damage, and the range of the shot leaves much to be desired, but at an early stage there is practically no alternative to it.

Crafted Club

To create it, you will need certain items: a skull, a rope and a stick. You can get the skull by killing and burning cannibals at the stake. The homemade baton is quite a formidable weapon, especially at the beginning of the game, but later it should be replaced with something more powerful, such as a fire ax.

Torch

You can create a torch from one stick and one fabric (the approximate location of this material can be seen in the picture below; other places are shown in interactive map ). You need to craft it only once - then you can set fire to the torch at any time using a lighter.

The torch is great for illuminating dark caves. However, it can also be used as a weapon. Although it does not deal much damage, it is able to set fire to opponents.

Molotov cocktail

This incendiary mixture can be crafted by using a bottle of vodka and one unit of cloth. She does an excellent job of dealing with mutants in the early stages of the game, when many gamers do not yet have firearms. The main thing is to learn how to accurately hit the target.

Bomb with timer

To make it, collect the following items: tape, wire, circuit board (can be obtained from broken laptops), 5 coins, a wristwatch and a C4 charge. This explosive is capable of doing much more damage than a Molotov cocktail, but it is much more difficult to create it. We advise you to use it only against extremely strong and at the same time not very fast enemies.
