In Baldur's Gate 3 an affair with Karlach is one of the possible love branches present in the game. To start it and see all the possible bed prices with an ardent she-devil, you have to improve relations with her, and choose the correct answers during the dialogues. In this guide, we will tell you in detail how to build a romantic relationship with this character.
Where to find Karlach
Naturally, the first thing you will need to do is invite a girl to your squad. You can do this already in Act 1. To do this, take on the side mission "Blade of the Frontier", issued by Will and related to hunting Karls. You can find it southeast of the quest marker - go down the slope to the river and walk along the log.
Karlach is located in the Uphill Road. Its exact coordinates are X: 109, Y: 510. Then listen to the she-devil and spare her. Subsequently, she will appear in your camp. You can read more about recruitment in our satellite guide.
How to Improve Your Relationship with Carlach
Before you can take on the development of a romantic relationship, you will need to advance a little in the story. In addition, it is extremely important to try to make those decisions that will lead to approval from Karlach. When exploring the world and gatherings in the camp, there will be many moments that can affect her opinion of you. If you don't have a good relationship with her, she won't show any interest in you when it matters.
Approval in Baldur's Gate 3 is the most important aspect when it comes to romantic relationships with characters. Regardless of who you're planning to romance with, the first thing you need to do is befriend him so that he generally approves of your actions.
Karlah, like all other possible companions, has a pronounced personality and worldview, so there are things that she approves of and those that she does not like. So as long as you are able to maintain an image in your character that matches the traits of a she-devil, it will be relatively easy to get her approval.
From the point of view of the moral compass, Karlach leans more towards good than evil, so if you follow the path of a real hero, you can win her over pretty quickly, but it will be more difficult for villains to do this. At the same time, you can’t call her God’s dandelion, since she loves to fight and is not against violence, if it extends to those who deserve a good beating.
We won't go into detail on all of the things that Carlach approves or disapproves of (you can check them out in our separate companion material), but rather general things that she likes or dislikes.
What Karlach approves of:
- Good attitude towards children.
- Heroic actions (saving the innocent, destroying evil, and so on).
- Compassion for tieflings.
- Solving problems through violence, unless it's about insane massacre or villainous deeds.
- Take the side of the weak when they are bullied.
What Karlach disapproves of:
- Demonstration of senseless cruelty to others.
- Cowardly actions.
- Teaming up with goblins.
- Indifference towards tieflings.
So as long as you stand up to evil and never choose to run away from the enemy (diplomacy doesn't count), you shouldn't have any problems developing a relationship with Carlach.
How to start and develop a romance with Karlach
Act 1
After completing the main story quest "Save the Druid Halsin" and the side quest "Save the Refugees", you can have a party at your camp at the end of the day by choosing a long rest. When everyone is celebrating, talk to Karlah and choose the following dialogue option (it will be available if you have endeared yourself enough to the she-devil):
- I think I mustered enough courage to tell you that I like you.
Karlach will say that he will find you when the others are asleep. After the conversation, go to bed by interacting with your sleeping bag near the fire. Next, a cutscene will begin, during which a girl will come up to you and wake you up by sitting next to you.
You will talk to her for a bit regarding her inner flame connected to the infernal mover. You can choose any response options, as long as they are not dismissive or rude. You will then have the opportunity to kiss her, however your kiss will not last long as you pull away due to the pain. Karlah will be concerned that she hurt you.
In order to advance the romance with Carlach, you will need to try and cool her down. To do this, you need to find the blacksmith Dammon and give him a piece of hellish iron - we talked about this in a separate guide. By giving him the right ore, the tiefling will be able to briefly cool the girl, so she will be able to briefly touch someone. It will be possible to test this in practice by kissing a companion.
Returning to the camp, talk to Karlah and let him know that you know how to cool her down. She will simply answer: "I'm waiting," and the dialogue will end there. To continue it, you will need to douse the girl with water, cast a spell to create water (ice) or shoot her with an ice arrow. This will allow you to continue the conversation - choose flirtatious answers.
Act 2
In the second chapter, you will need to meet Dammon again and give him new pieces of infernal iron. However, you need to do this in a special way, otherwise you will not get a romantic scene later (perhaps the developers will fix this bug in the future):
- When you reach the Last Light Tavern with Karlah in your squad, you will hear a phrase from her regarding Jaheira.
- Talk to her about Jaheira, and don't talk to other characters.
- Go to the stables to find Dammon here, but don't engage in dialogue with him just yet. Make a backup of your save just in case.
- Head to your camp for a scene with Will and Mizora. Then talk to Carlach about this event.
- Now you can talk to Dammon and give him new pieces of infernal iron. As a result, you will be able to kiss Karlach without any problems.
Now wait for a message from the devil that she wants to talk to you when you are in the camp. Chat with her - she will ask if you want to see her later, when everyone is asleep. Answer in the affirmative (if you say that you are not ready or want to end the relationship, then the affair with Karlach will end). Next, interact with your sleeping bag.
When the girl approaches you, you can choose any answer to her first phrase. Then you need to tell her the following:
- “Let's not rush” or “Trust me, I can control myself quite well. And you."
- "Forward" or "What do you mean?".
- “I belong to you, Karlach” or “Uh. You first."
- “And I keep thinking, when will you offer.”
As a result, a love scene with a she-devil will begin. If you are not yet sure about your relationship with Karlah or do not want to go all the way yet, you can tell her:
- "I like you Karlach, but I don't think I want to sleep with you."
The novel will not end there, but you will take a different path, more restrained. Then say:
- "I want to be with you, but I'm not ready to go all the way yet."
- "Sounds perfect."
For some players who plan to end the game with Carlach as their lover, the next scene may seem even more appropriate.
Chat with Karlach the next morning. You can answer the first two remarks of the girl as you wish, and then select phrases from the list:
- “Well, of course - and every day more and more” or “Much more than just like you.”
- “Well, if our observations are to be believed, there will be many trials in the future. But we will honor them together.”
- “And I love you too” or “I…I love you.”
As a result, you will be able to maintain a strong romantic relationship with Carlach, which will smoothly twist into the third Act.
Act 3
Once you get to the Lower City at Baldur's Gate and your approval from Karlach is high enough, you will be able to talk to her again in the camp (it is possible that you also need to cool her infernal mover even more). She will invite you on a date in the city. Agree and go to the marked place. When you sit down at the table, choose from the following options:
- "Thank you, you too" or "Don't I know that."
Next, choose any food and drink. After that, Karlach will start asking you questions about your life as an adventurer. Choose any answers to the following two remarks of the girl. Perhaps in your case the dialogue will be longer, however, in the end, you will come to the same point as we did. Ask the interlocutor any question, and then answer her remark with any phrase. When she asks you if you want to go upstairs, choose the following answer:
- "After you".
As a result, another love scene with Karlah will be shown, in which you will spend the whole night with her in a hotel room. Then you will return to the camp.
If you want to see a less hot scene, you can say at the table that you go upstairs, but you are not going to make love to her. In this case, you will just lie on the bed and kiss, and then return to the camp.
Toward the end of the game, you will be able to chat with Karla about plans for the future. In this dialogue, the girl admits that her life may be short. However, the developers have released a new ending for the devil, in which the hero will get a chance to fight for the life of his beloved.
How does Dark Seduction affect the novel?
If you have chosen "Dark Seduction" as your origin, then an important event may occur in the second act. This usually happens if the character did not kill Isobel and he has a lover (in our case, this is Karlach). The darkness inside the hero will prompt him to kill the chosen one during sleep. To prevent this, follow these steps:
- Try to wake your partner and make a Wisdom (14) check.
- Once bound, make another Wisdom check (18). You will have a slight advantage because your lover will believe in you.
If you fail to do this, then you are very likely to kill your chosen one. Your team members will be shocked by your uncontrollable madness, so if you fail to trick them, you will have to fight all your former comrades alone. Surviving this fight will not be easy.
In Act 3, you will have the option to accept your fate or be completely free of the Dark Seduction. This takes place after the "Murder Tribunal" and "Orin the Red" arcs. The consequences of your decision for the romance (if Karlach is alive) will look like this:
- Break free from the Dark Seduction/reject blessings. Karlach will definitely like that you are finally free from the darkness.
- Accept your fate by staying with the Dark Seduction. In this case, Karlach will not be able to stay with you (untested).
Is it possible to have a simultaneous romance with Shadowheart
We want to separately consider the possibility of the simultaneous development of the novel with both Karlach and Shadowhart. You can indeed sleep with both girls in one playthrough, but at the end you can only stay with the priestess. If you don't mind a similar ending, then follow these steps:
- The romance with Karlah in Act 1 must begin BEFORE romance with Shadowhart, otherwise during the holiday she will offer to remain friends or will not be interested in the main character at all.
- The scene with Carlach where she tries to kiss the protagonist should be before the repair of her mover in Act 1 and before the party. During the celebration, you need to continue to flirt with her.
- Then agree to spend the evening with Shadowheart on the rock, but you won't be able to kiss her.
- Keep chasing both girls until you manage to sleep with Carlach.
- After that, talk to Shadowheart and say that you are ready to break Karlah's heart in order to stay with her. Then continue the romance with the priestess.
Naturally, in this case, there will be an emotional scene with Karlah, which can be seen in the video above.
Intrigues with Khalsin, Mizora and the Emperor
Unlike Shadowheart, Karlach reacts extremely negatively to the protagonist's affair with NPCs and Halsin (untested). We do not advise you to sleep with Mizora, as you will seriously injure the she-devil, because of which the romance with her may well end.
The only exception, most likely, is the Emperor. Since after a night with him, many satellites practically did not react to this at all. Karlach, most likely, is also one of them. However, we still advise you not to take risks and remain faithful only to your beloved.
